Market Friday After-Christmas Sales

in marektfriday •  6 years ago  (edited)

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) I hope you will join me as we share different markets across the globe. Every week, I look forward to the different markets and places from all over this big, wide world. Thank you for sharing a piece of you.

The day after Christmas has notoriously been popular for shopping, especially for all things holiday. If you are looking for ornaments, lights, outdoor displays -anything Christmas, now is the time to buy it at a very reduced price! It is usually 50% -75% off the regular price! Woo-hoo! What a deal, yes??!

IMG_8351.JPG

Please leave the link to your post on here so it can easily be found by others. They are easier to find in one place. Where else can you take such a quick trip around the globe? Thank you so much!! ❤

Who doesn't love to see what they will be selling in some foreign market, shopping in places I have never been to and some, never even heard of. I am always curious about things that are foreign to me, aren't you? Offbeat places, foreign ingredients, different produce or any product sold. So, yes! I would love to see yours! Don't forget to take photos wherever you happen to be shopping - whether it be the grocery, art galleries, wherever money is exchanged for a service or for merchandise. Don't forget to use the hashtag #MarketFriday and @dswigle.

There were so many different products for sale. I did buy a few of these boxes. They were just cardboard, but the thickness was amazing. They will last for at least 100 years. Give or take a few. I use them over and over and I usually buy some that nest inside each other to save space.

IMG_8420-001.JPG

I tried hard to buy this guy! You remember him?? He even looked like he was calling out to me! But, they wouldn't have any of that! They wanted to keep their bear for a display. Perhaps I will try again next year! You have to admit, he is kind of cute!

IMG_8386.JPG

There is a person/tag I would love to promote this week. I have been following him for a while, but, it just occurred to me that he does markets all over the world, wherever he is at the time. I want to thank our globetrotting friend, @world-travel-pro (Dan, that's him!) for bringing the world to our doorstep, one country at a time. He can be found here Don't forget to give him a look-see and a follow if you haven't already!

STOP!! BRAIN TEASER AHEAD!!

Question: I can be quick and then I’m deadly. I am a rock, shell, and bone medley. If I was made into a man, I’d make people dream. I gather in my millions by ocean, sea, and stream. What am I?

source

Answer: Sand. Think about it: Sand can be quick and deadly (quicksand), it is a rock, shell, and bone medley, and if it were a man, it would be the Sandman!!

Ribbon anyone?? You know you do!! The ribbon makes the most delightful bows on gifts! I promise you!

IMG_8379.JPG

Nutcrackers were in high demand, but, I passed on that one. I have got two that I bought when I lived in Germany. I was actually looking for a life-size one, but most of them were not well made and the ones that were, you would need a small bank loan to purchase.

IMG_8392.JPG

Boxes and boxes of pricey retro ornaments. At 75% off, they suddenly became a great bargain! Some were shiny brights and others were the kind my mother used to have, birds of all kinds with clips to fasten to the tree's branches. I have some from my parents and I know they still make them, but, I am really nostalgic about my old ornaments.

Memories give me a warm glow, just knowing they were passed on with love. 💓

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit #MarketFriday today. Check out a few of the other links and enjoy a quick trip around the globe. Happy New Year to all!! It has been a great 2018!!

A flower. There must always be a flower. Always and forever.💓💓

Hehe! I did, didn't I? I should be so ashamed, not being able to let the beauty of the season leave gracefully! I imagine now that it really is OVER, I will be able to gently release it. But, it was fun while it lasted, no?

Oh, I love the Museum! Especially when they rotate the displays now and again, giving highlights to something I have never seen before and probably never would. Let me grab my camera and let's go check it out!

!tip

Fantastic post! I would say the bear is ok but dont think it would fit in your decor. However did you get the angel?

Thank you! The bear really wouldn't go with my decor, but perhaps he would look good next to my Christmas Tree? I was hopeful. The angel was gone when I went back, but, it was my fault because I wasn't willing to pay full price for him. Perhaps next year, I will feel differently.

They always get angels at this place, so hopefully, they will have one that captures my heart as this one did.

!tip

Omg that is horrible! I just knew that you loved him and wished you had got him. I told you that you deserved a treat. Take it from a cheap ass, sometimes you just got to pony up the cash. It shows you really care then, right? I really am sorry.

I normally don't worry about putting out the money for something I really loved that much, but, this Holiday Season, there were so many pressing things that to spend that extra on myself would have felt terribly selfish.

I'm okay with that, but thank you so much.

Well I see how much you do, you sacrifice, and give for others so in my mind I dont know anyone that deserves to have it more than you.

Shhhh! ;)

Hey, just my opinion and the last I checked, you are not my boss ;)

Where did you hear that rumor?

There are a few items I pick up like boxes and Christmas paper. They are heavily discounted and I have a place to store them. I never buy much, but, it is fun to look.

Thanks for stopping by, Ace! @ace108

!tip

You're welcome. Having place to store them is good but also important to remember where you put them. :-)

Oh, Ace!! @ace108 I have a closet devoted to all things Holiday in a very organized manner. It has shelves for each holiday and Christmas had many shelves. :-)

Ah... Cheers, to many more good Christmases. :-)

Thank you so much!

You're welcome.

Well, I can not see other items to buy anymore. I know you can, it demonstrates this blog, my wife can buy anywhere and anytime but I can not. And I do not like the bear either. I hope you can not buy it.
Otherwise, your usual mix of mixed themes in the main theme, the market. Beautiful and interesting and very beautiful photographed. The quality of the photos is very important and helps your posts to be very professional.

Well, Dan, @bluemoon I didn't do major shopping. I just bought two boxes for putting gifts in and a couple of rolls of Christmas paper. Sometimes I wrap early and I will have some available. I am not a huge shopper as noted by the #MarketFriday posts that I put out. Very rare to have many stores to buy anything.

I didn't get the bear. No worries. But, I think I seriously would not have brought him home anyway. Oh, yes, mixed themes in the main theme... somehow I think that might be the wrong way to go, because when I see one well written and orderly, I really like it. I am so scattered when mine are put together. I hope for 2019 to be a little better with writing and such.

Thank you so much for dropping in and I want to wish you a Happy New Year in advance!

!tip

Thank you! Happy New Year to you too!
Please forgive me for being more critical, I told you that these days I am a little bit uncomfortable.

There were only some opinions and you must know that I am an admirer of your blogs that have always been an inspiration to me.

You didn't offend me at all! I was just saying that I am not a huge shopper and you can notice that by how many other things I offer up on my #MarketFriday posts. You always point out things matter-of-fact, which has more to do with the language barrier than the way you feel. So do not hesitate to put it out there. I promise to take it in the way it was meant. And with friendship.

Nothing to forgive.

Yes, I have noticed by now that you look with indulgence and friendship my remarks. I'm glad! Thank you.

It is always a pleasure!

Seeing a picture of the beach makes me want to spend some time at one right now. Not even an hour away and it’s been far too long! Reading a book down there almost sounds amazing till the sand gets into everything.

I still got family coming in late next month to celebrate charismas and other stuff. It’s still not over for me just yet! One of these days I’m not going forget to get a picture of the tree.

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

I will be taking 15 days to make a Carribean Beach Date in the first days of February. I need to reenergize and regroup. I still have company and will til next week.

And you forgot the tree again?

I totally did sneak one more in, didn't I? I just couldn't resist. I thought about how I have been spamming the Christmas ornaments and Holiday decorations and almost didn't but, truly, this will be the last! Thanks for being a great sport about them.

Hehe... It is so pretty and peaceful looking, I could leave them up all year long. I never tire of your NYC shots, but, they will be taking them down sometime soon. She sighs...

Thank you for dropping the link and for religiously joining in on #MarketFriday! Thank you for the

!tip

Thanks for the tip, but its not needed i love joining Market Friday
YEs it just wont be the same in the city when they take all the trees down :(

Oh, JJ @tattoodjay....I wouldn't do it if I had to, I do it because I want to. It sure will be bare for a while, just like my house when I take it all down. For a few days, it looks lonely.

I know that I am the same way, it must be a big job for you packing up all those trees, at least we only have one little one to do

Most of them are real, so I have them mulched, but, taking the ornaments and decor off them is a job. I have a ten-foot tree, a seven and half a six foot and a four foot.

But, I do so love them!

how beautiful you make them look for sure is worth the effort involved :)

Hehe... now I cannot complain! Drats! And thank you. Oh, my! The weekend. :)

Hiya Denise! I finally got this train wreck completed! Between the horrible storms and the darkness, OMG! I know it is a stretch, but its all I got this week, so here's looking at you, kid. (I know you like that movie too lol)

I'm like you, I have a special place in my heart for Mr. Bear, ever since you showed him on here. He would look SO great in my living room. (I used to have a giant Mr. Potatoehead, M&M, and Bugs Bunny in my Morris Chairs and antique fainting couch, to keep the cats off of them. (My ONLY claim to fame in life....I have a picture of the couch, with Maria Bello laying on it, it was in the movie "Sisters". Long story, need to make a post about it...SOMEDAY. ) But those sorts of impediments work great for keeping the cats at bay.) And yet, that bear is in a category of his own. He'd look great ANYWHERE. I hope they sell him to you one day ( :

Those post holiday sales are great. I used to get all my Christmas cards at that time (before letters), and still find chocolate candy canes to eat during the basketball games. Ah, the joys of life, no matter how small and confectionary.

Well, I hope you had a marvy Christmas, and the New Years is a good time, if you want it to be, and the next 11.99 months after it are grand. Thanks for another fun Friday shopping session too. Cheers, and have a nice weekend.

Hehe! I so need to hear the backstory to that one for sure! And the couch! I love fainting couches, although they must first speak to me so I can see if we have something in common.

It is such a personal piece, we must have a proper relationship, no?

That bear would look great anywhere, given the right circumstances, right? I thought that he would look rather dapper standing next to the fireplace or perhaps one of the trees, offering out his Merry Christmas wishes to anyone who would listen.

I did buy the chocolate candy canes! Did them in hot chocolate too. They are delish! I bought some sturdy gift boxes and some expensive wrapping paper that I would never buy in season. :) Score!

Happy New Years, DD! @ddschteinn I'll either be in on the beach for the weekend through New Years, so I won't be out or home with a few friends. In the neighborhood so no cars. It will be awesome either way. You have a great weekend too!

Shopping after the holidays is really very profitable. bear goes to sleep until next year :)))) I am amazed! Do people really agree to pay so much for big nutcrackers?

That particular nutcracker was 1505.748 ILS ($400.00) and way too much for such an unprofessionally painted one. He was pretty big, but, not at all what I was looking for.

Oh, they can run into the thousands of dollars if they are big and painted well. Shopping after the holidays has always proven to be a good deal if you have storage and don't buy a bunch of junk. ;)

Thank you for dropping the link!!! I still want the pom pom ones or the bunny slippers!

!tip

wow !!!!! This is a huge amount of money for such a thing as an ordinary nutcracker! you're right! to buy such things you need a huge barn :))))) I understand that everyone has different tastes and preferences, but such a huge thing can hardly decorate someone's house for the holiday. Your bear would be much more suited for this purpose :)))
