VPD Advocates say 80F+ canopy temps, 70% RH. I Say This is Upside Down for Quality Cannabis (You Want SUPER Frosty, Right!?)

That Room You're Flowering In Is Upside Down!

2 or 3 years ago I noticed a lot of talk about Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) on cannabis forums, along with a chart. You can find a number of them to look at on google images.

Using this chart and CO2 saturation information, growers are flowering in 80F+ temperatures and 70% humidity. While I'm sure this grows healthy cannabis, I (and anyone else who's done this) say quality is significantly higher with low canopy temps and low humidity.

According to the chart, my 72F canopy temperatures and 25% humidity should be producing a VPD of 18+. Either cannabis is really strange and reacts to 18+ vpd with excessive trichome production, or that chart is waaay off.

I've reached out to some growing forums and found a small percentage of growers who have also had the same experience. Not only do they agree on the trichome density, the levels of terpene and cannabinoid expression match mine as well.

I've handed clones to other growers that used just 40-50% humidity and I was unable to tell it was the same cannabis. Same nutes, same hps lighting, high humidity/temp flowering. Massive difference in the sheer number of trichomes and amounts of terpenes and cannabinoids. Visibly, aromatically and flavor wise, they seemed almost completely different. It was just a pale representation of how the clone expressed itself in my own garden.

Several times, with several growers, same results.

I Would Like to Hear from Other Growers (Post Pics if You Can)

  • What are your temps/RH levels from start of flower to end of flower?
  • Have you flowered the same clone in both environments?
  • If you know, What are your CO2 levels?

Everyone deserves superior quality cannabis, let's get to the bottom of this!
