Witnesses said he had been trying to climb it when they suddenly collapsed
A huddle of people rushed on stage and then stretchered him off minutes later after breaking him free from beneath the props
Confused concert goers were plunged into darkness then told to leave the venue
A representative for the star said he was in hospital being treated for an injury
The seriousness of the rocker's condition was not immediately known
Marilyn Manson has been crushed by a falling prop at his New York City concert.

The 48-year-old rock star was in the middle of singing Sweet Dreams when the props, described by witnesses as giant pistols, fell.

He had just begun climbing on to them in the middle of his performance when they began to give way and 'toppled' on top of him, witnesses said.

Several people rushed on to the stage but it took a number of minutes before Manson was stretchered off stage.

The accident comes just a week after Manson said controversially that the Columbine shooting 'ruined' his career. The teenage gunmen responsible for the shooting were reported to be fans of the star.
