First time my best friend told me about the blog he had been following, it didn't take my attention. "Just a story blog so what" I thought but after finding out what was the real story, I became far too much interested.
Well the story is that an ex-soldier (Mark Hogancamp) gets beaten up by some guys outside a bar. He was an alcoholic guy who used to hang out in bars. He kind of reminded me the guy in the movie hurtlocker. He was intelligent and highly creative. Everything started when one guy at the bar called him crossdresser. (He really was a crossdresser, he had a collection of woman shoes consisting of more than 100 pairs) Other group of teenage drunk young guys heard this and attacked him outside the bar to teach him a lesson.
They gave him such a beating that he was in a coma for nine days and when he woke up his memory was completely erased. He had to learn how to eat, walk or write from the beginning just like a new born baby.
He decided not to give those guys who had put him in a coma what they wanted and he set up a small village in his backyard with dolls to rehabilitate himself.
The city is called the Marwencol. It is a city in Belgium under the german occupation. I can sense the anger and violance in him in the stories. Most of the stories are very bloody. Building this small town with different charachters (barbie dolls), shooting their pictures, posting them on his blog and interacting with the followers of his blog made him get back his eye-hand coordination and heal the pshycological wounds of the incident.
