Underground In A Salt Mine For MarketFriday

in marketfriday •  7 years ago  (edited)

Today I'm going to take you to the salt mine of Praid, Romania, which is something very unusual for MarketFriday but don't worry, there will be amazing products as well. And make sure to scroll down to see photos of the world's first underground adventure park, in a salt mine, the coolest adventure for children and adults. Adrenaline and fun for everybody :)

This amazing place is not just a tourist attraction. About 400 000 people come here annually for treatment. The air is the best treatment for the respiratory system, asthmatic, bronchial and allergic diseases. Many, many kids are brought here during school vacation, they stay in the mine from morning to evening so no wonder this place is practically a huge playground for kids.

However the air down there is not good for everyone, there are some contraindications (pulmonary tuberculosis, acute respiratory diseases, hypertension (3rd phase), Ischemic Cardiomyopathy, Basedow-Graves disease, fainting neurological disorders, neurological disorders with fainting, claustrophobia, advanced pregnancy etc.).

You can't enter the mine on foot, there is a bus every half an hour that takes you down to the entrance. After getting off the bus, we were going down the stairs (250 steps!!! :D) towards the entrance of the visiting place called "Level 50”, which is 120 m deep down from the surface. I have low blood pressure and after getting off the bus I got dizzy and had a headache, so the adventure park for me was not an option, unfortunately. Maybe next time :)

Two miners having a conversation. This is a salt statue next to the entrance, named Thoughts In The Salt, as you can see on the second photo.

Next to the entrance there's a photo gallery with photos featuring the local swimming pool with salty water (of course), different types of salt crystals etc.

Everything you see here is salt. It looks like stone but it's not, it's salt! The floor is made of salt and it's shiny, looks like glass because people walking on it over the years made it shiny.

This is one of the halls full of people. The average annually underground temperature is 16°C. So we went from 3°C to 16°C :D

There are wood tables and benches all over the mine, you can sit down, play cards or board games, or you can have lunch.

A close up photo of the mine's wall. Can you see the carves?
IMG_20180402_114932a.jpg

This is another hall, people are playing badminton, kids are playing with balls, rollerskating etc. At some point I saw a trainer having an aerobic class, which is a really amazing thing to do.
IMG_20180402_115308a.jpg

There are show-windows carved in the wall of the mine with different things. Here you can see boxes with sulfuric, iodine bath salt with refreshing effect for medical use.
IMG_20180402_115536a.jpg

You can read about the mine's history in Romanian, Hungarian and English.

More tools.
IMG_20180402_115718a.jpg

There are a few souvenir shops offering a large variety of products. There's also Coffee Shop, a 3D Cinema and a naturist drugstore inside the mine.
IMG_20180402_121031a.jpg

Handmade chocolate :)
IMG_20180402_121546a.jpg

Fruit jams, canned mushroom and vegetables. I have to tell you, these and the chocolates and everything in general down in the mine cost at least twice as much as on the outside world.
IMG_20180402_121644a.jpg

Juices made of different kind of fruits.
IMG_20180402_121702a.jpg

People are playing ping pong and you can see the playground in the background.
IMG_20180402_122142a.jpg

There is a large ecumenical chapel in one of the halls.
IMG_20180402_125203a.jpg

This is the old part of the mine where salt was mined once. This is off limits to visitors, you can have a look through the glass window.

IMG_20180402_152331a.jpg

There is a diner in the other end of this hall. You can sit down to the wood tables and serve lunch.
IMG_20180402_152631a.jpg

And let the fun begin! This is the entrance of the adventure park.
IMG_20180402_114514a.jpg

Once you payed the entrance fee, you get the necessary equipment and these amazing guys give you a training.
IMG_20180402_133627a.jpg

Look at these kids, having fun here while healing from some kind of respiratory disease. If you are a parent you know how hard it is to entertain kids for a whole day. Here there is no problem, there are plenty to do for them.

WOW ...truly amazing it's like a whole new world underground with playgrounds and hospital what a genius idea. Would never think these sort of things could exist so far underground thanks for showing us something very interesting and educational :)

Thank you so much @hangin, I told you I'm going to post something really cool 😎

Well you certainly did really amazing enjoyed reading and looking at every photo in that post...well done :)

🙏🙌

Waw!!! What a lovely Market Friday. Congrats dear Erika!

Thank you dear @ginga! Have a nice weekend!

Wow! This was a most amazing post, Erikah! I have never been to a salt mine and found this entire thing fascinating. I had no idea how they would have an adventure park in a salt mine, but my, oh, my! I would love to visit there and play badminton and and have lunch at the wooden picnic tables.

I found it so interesting that even the floors were made of salt as well as the art. What a fascinating place and I wonder who was ingenious enought to make money on it. What a great place to have fun and recieve some medicinal benefits from it!

I am so eternally grateful to learn new things every single day and thank you for being such a dedicated #MarketFriday poster!

I know things were more expensive but who could resist?

As a note: I was surprised that salt adversely affects some medical conditions but, this does make sense to me.

Mulțumesc foarte mult! XOXOX

Upped and Steemed Tip!

Denise my dear friend!!! 💖💗💝 How could I ever thank you for your kind words and your generosity!?!? Could I ever??
I'm so glad I could show you and the other Steemians something unique and interesting in the same time! This place is really amazing and not only for the adventure park. My nephew was having respiratory problems when he was a little kid, he was brought here years in row and he got healthy. Too bad back then there was no adventure park :)
Anyway, the mine is very old, minig started in the 18th century and we're really glad to have such a place.
It's on my bucket list, I want to go back to do the adventure trail and I truly hope I can beat the dizziness this time. If I go back, then there will be another amazing post with photos and history.
Till then I'm looking for other amazing places to show you :) I'd like to talk to you in private, so I'm looking for you on other platforms :)
Thank you again my dear Denise and have a great weekend! I'm off to see the other market Friday posts 😉

Hi @erikah! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @dswigle!

@dswigle wrote lately about: Feel free to follow @dswigle if you like it :)

This reminds me of the salt mines where I grew up. We used to feel them blast everyday around noon. My buddy worked as a tour guide after they quite mining!

I'm glad I could bring back some nice memories with my post. Thank you for your comment.

Congratulations! The place you present here is fabulous.

Thank you dear @bluemoon! Very kind of you. I'm off to see the other market Friday posts. I hope I'm going to see yours too :)

With pleasure @erikah. I like your determination and success!

Thank you dear @bluemoon. This was indeed a success, I got curried, you can see the value of this post.

Nagyon jó összeállítás a parajdi sóbányáról. Még nem voltam ott, bár tavaly elég közel voltunk, Székelyvarságban. Ebben az évben is tervezzük, hogy elmegyünk Erdélybe.

Köszönöm!

Amazing experience! Thanks for sharing with us:)

How exciting to see the results of this fabulous post @erikah You really have done an amazing job with this blog. What a fascinating place. They have blended interesting facts with fun activities which must have great appeal for people of all ages. Your photos are amazing . Sharing this outstanding effort my dear friend. 🌺

Thank you dear Trudee, we loved the place, I want to go back to try out the adventure park. And looks like the readers like it too, and that makes me happy 😊

That looks like a cool place to visit. I checked out a coal mine last summer. It was neat but nowhere near as big.

I have a fascination with caves. Maybe it's because I live on the prairies and there are none around where I live.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it! And the mine is really huge :)

@curie @meerkat and @hendrikdegrote, thank you so much for your appreciation! It means a lot to me!

Thank you 🙏 for sharing this amazing post , I have never seen something like this before, I traveled to your world in a second, how cool is this ! You really are great 👍🏻 💖

My pleasure dear @vee2180, I'm glad I could show you something interesting! :)

This is awesome, so much activities in a salt mine! I have heard about it but your post is best presenting it. Fantastic place to visit.

Where have you heard about it! I know Varna is close to the border but even so, this place is a small one. I'm so glad you like it! 😊

I have friends and colleagues from Romania who have told me about that salt mine.
Once I visited a coal mine in Poland and my colleague from Romania first mentioned about the salt mine then.

Oh, oh! I almost missed this one. Glad I scrolled down a bit!!!

This is a very informative post @erikah. I do not know about salt mine. We live in an archipelago, surrounded with ocean, and here we have a number of salt farms.

But I love the fact that there's an adventure park inside the salt mine. Oh!!! What a treat for kids.

It's impossible for us to visit your country. So, thank you for taking us there. 😊

Thank you @gingbabida, I'm glad you like it!
