Market Friday - Thrift Stores

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by the wonderful @dswigle!

Around my neck of the woods, there are two Salvation Army thrift stores, one Veteran thrift store, and one Community thrift store that are very popular. These thrift stores are busier everyday more than other branded stores that I could see.

The Salvation Army thrift stores are run by Christian groups, and their items are all donated. They supposed to help the poor, and yet, they price higher, and charge for bags if you forget to bring your own. I understand that they want to help the environment, which is commendable, but charging people who shop at thrift shop is a bit contradiction.

Their prices on items are also higher than other thrift stores, and senior citizen discount is only 25 percent compare to others at 50 percent.

Believe me, I was born and raised Catholic, so this whole shenanigan doesn't make sense to me at all. I also understand that they have expenses, but so do other stores.

I was looking for picture frames at thrift stores, and usually shop at thrift stores. My favorite one in town is the Community Thrift Store! Everything is much cheaper, many items are half off, and for senior citizens age 50 and up is also half off.

I haven't found the frame I want yet, so I will keep on shopping! The funny thing is when I didn't have any plan for them, I saw them and didn't buy them. Now that I have some ideas what I want to do with frames, nothing pops out at me.

Check out new tipuvote! feature :)

Thank you!

I love to peruse thrift and second-hand stores. What a treasure trove these places are! If I am visiting an area that I am not familiar with, I always love to stop in their stores and see what is on display.

One man's trash is another man's treasure, right? Perhaps you might go a few towns over to check out their stores and see if you can find some frames. It might be just the thing that helps you find what you are looking for. I know what you mean though. I used to sew Christening gowns from old wedding gown and oh-how-beautiful they came out. Now, the gowns used to be so cheap and I could get two or three out of them. No longer the case and the price just keeps going up! Good luck to you!!!

Upvoted and I will Resteem later! tip!

I will wait for spring when the weather and road condition are better to wander around! Thanks for the advice! And thank you for the tip :-)

I love shopping at thrift stores! My community has revitalized it's crumbling downtown with consignment and thrift shops. It has become.something of a mecca for shoppers who come from far and wide. Lots of trendy restaurants have started up to accommodate all the people who are shopping there. It's a busy downtown once again!

That is wonderful, Melinda! Our thrift stores are run-down and in old buildings around here, but that didn't stop shoppers piling in :-)

There is how I like second-hand stores my favorites. you and I of stores you imagine? It would be great.
Happy day

Yes, there are second-hand stores around too, but their prices are much higher! Happy day to you @txatxy!

it happens! I continue to search further in such cases :) so we do not have such stores, so this is new for me.

Thrift stores have just become very popular these past 10 years or so since the economy got tough! It is fun to find old things there!

old things have very good quality

Good beautiful market..keep the challenge blazing

Sure will, but first I have to get out to the stores for some pictures next week :-)

You have a great thrift store by you!

When I was growing up we shopped at them a lot out of necessity and I hated them with a passion. (My teenage self did anyhow.)

But since I have grown up and don't have to shop there, I love going to them. Funny how we change over circumstance, age and time. :D

I can relate totally! It was not cool getting caught at the thrift stores! I started going there after I found some great items, and yes, after the divorce 17 years ago..
