MarketFriday Challenge Getting lots of Veggies

in marketfriday •  7 years ago

The public market has so much to offer, it often makes me wonder why I grow so much of my own food, but then again, at least I know I am organic. ;-)

The tomatoes are everywhere and so are the prices, wow are they expensive this year.

This area of the market is reserved for miscellaneous items that are not food related.

Here I am cooking some of the squash that I bought to put into the freezer for winter meals. Smells wonderful in the house.

Thank you to @dswigle for creating this wonderful weekly challenge.

Thank you for stopping by my post, I hope you enjoyed seeing my trip to the farmers market.

Until next time, this is Sunscape...

Are those squash on the bottom?

Yep, acorn and striped squash. so tasty!

I love markets!! But I still like to grow my own veggies as well. Many of our farmer's markets are mostly prepared food now. Makes me sad.

Oh my, if our market was prepared food I would not go. I love my fresh produce, and I do my best to grow enough for the winter months. Wow, that must be hard for you.

Yes, I don't like it and don't go very often. But we started a back yard food swap and that is great!! Right now, we do it once a month but hope to get more interest going and do it more often.

Seriously, $12 for tomatoes!

I know right! those tomato prices were killers, then you have to do the work to process them, no thanks.

Hi sunscape! Lovely post! My mum used to grow her own veggies too but she got too old to work the garden, so she gave up the ground to a younger couple. I wonder - what is "squash" ? I never heard of that! What do you make with them? What kind of dish?

The squash are a winter pumpkin type of vegetable that we just cook till soft and add butter and seasonings. Similar to cooking potato or sweet potatoes. Very good when topped with brown sugar too!

Omg that sounds so good!

Looks good and I bet it tastes good. Lovely photography

Thank you Joan, It is a wonderful market to get fresh produce.
