A lot of businesses start operations without really considering knowing the right people to sell their product or service to as a matter of fact it’s one of the reasons most new businesses fail.

Since this is a very important aspect of a business I have decided to write about it in really simple term for every one of you guys to easily understand.

Knowing the write people your product or service fits would boost your sale because you are literally giving these people solution to problems they want to solve and they would be generally willing to purchase your product or service, but if you are marketing to the wrong audience you would lose money because these people you are targeting do not need your good or service to solve any important problem they have and are willing to pay a price to get that problem solved.

In other to know your customer, I think you should consider asking yourself the following question and answering them as sincere as possible. They include the following:
• What Business are you into? This is a very important question, you should be very clear about the business you are into and that mean knowing your product or service to the core.
• What Problem does your product or service solve? This is another very important question you should have a clear answer for, your product or service should solve a problem for it have value for people to be willing to pay “their Money” for it.
• Who are the people these solutions of your production or service most important to? Yes, you want to make sure you know the people who your product or service are most important to, this can be in terms of the following

  1. Geographical Location: This simply means the best location to promote your product or services, where your product can actually sell, say you sell heaters, you can’t make sales in the sub Saharan Africa but rather locations where the environment can be really could, especially areas that experience winter.
  2. Sex: What sex is your product or service most appealing to, you can’t be selling make up kits and focusing your ads on male audience rather than female audience, except you don’t know what you are doing.
  3. Age: Yes, you must find the age grade your product or services are most appealing to, some product or services are going to be more appealing to younger age grades than it would be to the older ones. So your job is to know which of this age grade your product or services are most appealing to.
  4. Social Status: Yes you should know the social class your product or service your product fits, if your product is a luxury good or service, you should focus on the rich and middle class of the society. This can also apply to educated and non educated people, that is, is your product more appealing to educated or non educated people.
  5. Culture: Yes, I feel this is often over looked, it’s very good you understand the type of “way of life” that your product or service is more appealing to, for instance there are things you can sell in a country like the US that you can sell in the Middle East. So this is very important.
So these are very important ways to know your customer (target audience) before selling to them, and growing your
business from one level to a bigger one.
