Over the past couple of weeks I've been having discussions with some of my friends and colleagues. I have been looking ways to influence a larger audience in a more scalable way.
I'm currently working with small businesses and entrepreneurs. I'm helping them with online marketing challenges (if you don't know me yet). As much as I love consulting and working 1:1 with people, it's not a super scalable business model and it's not effective to work with many clients at the same time.
That has lead me to one interesting idea. What if I could put my intel, insight and experience into a book.
A book? On marketing? Like there isn't thousands of these out there already?
True. There are a lot of content written on marketing your business online.
But here's the thing.
Even though there's a lot content written around marketing, a lot of people struggle on taking action. People want to be guided and mentored and they don't want to spend a lot of time learning how to make something work.
Here's the misconception.
"Marketing takes a lot time"
"There's too many channels and strategies"
"I don't want to spend my money on something that doesn't work"
...list goes on
Luckily, in marketing you don't need to do a lot to make your business grow. You need one good marketing strategy that works well. When it works you simply find to optimise it and you make it awesome. Doing good marketing starts with the mindset, not only from the skills you need to set up campaigns and design banners. The best way to put your thinking right is by executing ideas in a very systematic and consistent manner.
I think great marketing can be achieved by setting a lot different hypothesis and conducting various experiments to figure out which channels work the best.
Since all businesses are different, there isn't a single channel or a strategy I could give you. I could guide you to the right direction so you could figure it out yourself.
The book would consist of X (I'm thinking about 100) experiments, that a reader can do every day. Plan, Execute, Measure and Scale or Drop. Hopefully this approach helps people in figuring out where they should set the focus in their marketing activities.
I would love to hear your feedback on the idea. Do you think it's totally useful and would be a great product for young marketers and small business owners who would like to get some clarity in the digital marketing jungle. Or do you think it wouldn't be useful at all and I shouldn't waste my time on this.
Here's also couple of book title ideas. Let me know what you think.
