Basically any time Jerome Powell gives public statements, investors hang on every word and markets jerk in response.
Today, he was interviewed at a NYT event, the last before the December rate decision, and the market shrugged. But to be fair, he was asked primarily two kinds of questions. One category was a "I'm gonna try and get you respond to shit-talking by politicians or non-monetary policy that I'm 99% sure you won't bite on" (he didn't), and the other was of the "what's your favorite dinosaur" variety. Like "I heard you used to play guitar", "what did you do on your gap year", and "let's talk about a special talent you have unrelated to your job".
I think it was meant to humanize him, given he's even more robotic than Zuck, but he didn't seem to give any signals and the beige book release was flat as well. Anyway, I don't know what his favorite dinosaur is, but I bet it's lame, obscure, and not even a carnivore.
