Marriage (In India) ! Please read and let me know your response! :)

A word which should elicit feelings of pure bliss has now become one of the most dreaded words for the mid 20s educated career-driven young girls.
And the reason behind this is all the more disheartening..because girls my age are being (for want of a subtler word) pressurised into getting married by their own kindred.
Now before you raise your voice in the defensive that such incidents are isolated to the 'not-so-modern' or provincial parts of India..I would like to politely object..Agreed that the instances of early marriages are more in those parts but the so called 'urban and educated' Indians are not far behind in this regard.
We have come such a long way w.r.t. saving the girl child..to educating the girl child..and so on and so forth...but the sad truth is..An umarried daughter, however successful and educated she might be, is still the cause of her family's and though its none of their business, but also her relatives' anxiety.
WHY?!
Someone...anyone...please just tell me why is it of absolute necessity to marry off your daughter as soon as possible?
Moving herself and her belongings from her parents' home to her in laws'/husband's home. Is this all there is to a girl's existence?
Why does she absolutely have to marry? Just for the sake of her family's honour?
And why is marriage seen as the only means of securing a safe and sound future? And why is an unmarried woman still ostracized by society?
Right since we were in nursery, our parents have been our heroes..they spent their hard earned money to educate us..always encouraged us to do better..motivated us to excel in our chosen careers and basically shaped us into the individuals we have become..and yet, just when we are finding our feet and learning to make something out of ourself...they decide that we should marry off our daughter!
Dammit! Now why would you do such a thing? You have invested so much time, money and efforts into educating your daughter.. why throw it all away for a guy..whom she barely knows..heck..whom even you parents barely know...What is so extra ordinary about him anyway?
Odds are that 9 times out of 10, the guy would not even be as closely educated as the girl..but yet in the business of marriage..he would be valued much higher..As is rightly pointed out in the movie, Badrinath ki dulhania, guys are viewed as Assets and girls are viewed as Liabilities by their families and society. Movies are generally larger than life but this is a sorry but real state of affairs today.
But parents don't fret. We are not saying that we are completely against the institution of marriage. We want to have a fairy tale wedding with all the tam-jham which is the trademark of a big fat Indian wedding! Believe me when I say this.We all have planned our perfect weddings since before we can even remember..and just like the bubbly Geet from Jab We Met..hume bhi bachpan se hi shaadi karneka ka bada shauk hai! But not like this. For god's sake, not like this!
First let us make something out of ourselves.Let us see the world on our own.Let us stand upon our own two feet. Let us be independent.Let us fly. Let us live.
We are not asking for much. Just some time out of our own hourglass, for ourself.
Please don't push us into this abyss when we are just learning to soar in the open skiesLove-Marriage-1.jpg
