I've been viewing Steems about sweets today. I won't lie, my mouth is watering. I've been sugar free in my diet for two months now. These pictures I've seen today, while so delicious looking, are not making me waver in my sugar decision. I started going through my pictures, trying to find a savory dish I could post about, when I came across this one, and giggled at the memory.
Last summer I really had a craving for roasted marshmallows. We do not have a fire place, fire pit, or bon fire at our disposal. I mentioned to my husband that when i was a kid, my sister and I would use mom's fondue forks to roast marshmallows over the stove burner. I believe I also said I was going to try it with a fork, as I do not own fondue forks. My husband, @goatgarden, told me what a ridiculous idea that was, and not to try it. I didn't. That day.
The next morning, my husband left for work. All day, roasted marshmallows were on my mind. That evening I couldn't take it anymore. The craving won out. I went into kitchen, dug out the marshmallows, got a fork from the drawer. I stabbed the marshmallow onto the fork and turned on a stove burner. I roasted that marshmallow to a light brown perfection. I couldn't wait to taste that sweet toasted marshmallow. I opened my mouth and went to take a bite. My lips touched the fork. To my dismay, the fork was burning hot, as was the marshmallow! It burned the inside of my mouth and throat, and the fork instantly blistered my lips! I was in pain, but laughing at my stupidity. And I certainly didn't want my husband to find out and tell me, "I told you so!". Thankfully he would be gone to work for 48 hours, so i had a little time to heal. I put salve on my lips and hoped they would look normal when he came home, and they did. :)
I'm a good sport, can laugh at myself, and had to call my sister to tell her what happened. She laughed with me and at me. Then, not much longer, I received a gift in the mail. It was a gag, a S'mores maker, from my sister, so I can now "roast" marshmallows safely in the microwave. When my husband saw it, he asked why she would send me that. I told him the truth of my mistake. He just hung his head and shook it, and started laughing. I will not be making that mistake again.
That was not the treat i was looking for!
