“We must recognize that we can’t solve our problem now until there is a radical redistribution of economic and political power… this means a revolution of values and other things. We must see now that the evils of racism, economic exploitation and militarism are all tied together… you can’t really get rid of one without getting rid of the others… the whole structure of American life must be changed. America is a hypocritical nation and [we] must put [our] own house in order.”- Report to SCLC Staff, May 1967.“The evils of capitalism are as real as the evils of militarism and evils of racism.” –Speech to SCLC Board, March 30, 1967.
Ah, Dr King, many fail to see the totality of his work. Especially the revolutionary rhetoric against the system. Many reference his civil rights accomplishments, but that only scratches the surface. His movements against anti-Imperialism, anti-Sexism, anti-Racism, anti-Capitalism, anti-Governemnt were disruptors to the status quo. He knew how to hack and exploit the pressure points of the system, of the matrix, and take it down. He would have succeeded...if it weren't for his assassination.
A new wave is coming now. We've seen it happening for a while. We knew Dr King's, legacy never died out. It always lived in us. With technology, we are what Saul Williams says all our own Marty Loser King. Why wait for the "Other 1%--The Martyrs" Why can't we stand up on our own, together for a common goal. To take down the status quo, and arise anew from the old. We are and we will. The internet, technology, decentralization, we are reaching our own enlightenment towards freedom. It's better this way. Because Martin would have disapprove for the idolization we created of him. For he would say "I'm just a man, I'm a sinner not a saint." Therefore we need to be our own Martin, and make change together. Only then, can we begin to heal.
