HAPPY AVENGERS ENDGAME DAY EVERYONE!!!
Hahahahah Yeaaaaaa boiiiiiii. Y'all already know what I'm talking about. By now, you have probably noticed that the internet has been absolutely set ablaze by the release of the latest (and last) Avengers Endgame trailer, and more importantly, the release of showtimes and tickets. I hope you already have your tickets! They are going fast!
Although this trailer is only a minute long, it already feels much longer than any other trailer released thus far. It's ironic that of all the trailers released, this is the one that reveals the most...especially given its length. Many people are already saying that this trailer was a mistake, and that they revealed too much, but hopefully by the end of this breakdown, you will see that this isn't the case.
Let's break this puppy down.
WARNING: POTENTIAL MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR AVENGERS ENDGAME. IF YOU DO NOT WANT THE MOVIE POTENTIALLY SPOILED TURN BACK NOW. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Short Handed...
The trailer starts off with a shot of the Avengers headquarters (we will be seeing a lot of this location in the film...more on that later) and Bruce expressing his concerns with the Avengers' current plan, which seems to be heading out into space to confront Thanos. I know I said in earlier breakdowns that I know they will be entering the quantum realm, and this does not sway my opinion. They WILL be entering the quantum realm, and you can tell simply by observing what they are wearing while confronting Thanos. Notice how those special Quantum Suits are nowhere to be seen in this trailer. That is because everything in this trailer happens in the first act of the film. Yeah you read that right. Based on a leak that came out of Reddit many months ago, I now think I know exactly how this film is going to play out...and man is it INSANE.
Here is the full leak. Again...spoilers everyone.
The Leak
This was leaked almost 11 months ago on 4chan, and reposted several times on reddit, but most people, including me, dismissed it. There are just so many leaks that it's hard to take any of them seriously. However, with the recent release of Avengers Endgame merchandise, as well as this trailer...I am fairly confident that this leak is now relevant again. Everything that this leak proposes matches up with what has been shown so far. Allow me to explain.
Now of course if Tony was building his own gauntlet, that is something they would save for the film. It would be silly to give that away in the trailers. But Tony reassembling the avengers was just confirmed in this trailer with the team shots at the beginning, as well as Tony's speech:
"It's not about how much we lost...it's about how much we have left. We're The Avengers. We gotta finish this"
This little speech is accompanied by shots of Tony hugging Pepper (sheds a single tear) and a shot of the remaining members of the team (minus Captain Marvel) all assembled in Avengers HQ.
Right after this, Tony concludes by asking Captain America if he "trusts him". Cap responds by saying "I do." this seems to confirm the part of the leak that says the film will revolve around Cap's relationship with Tony.
Now in the next part of the trailer, we see the remaining team whisk off into space, seemingly to confront Thanos. Now most would expect this to take place later in the film, but I would expect this to take place rather early. Why? Because a big portion of this film will take place in the quantum realm of course. This seems to add more credibility to this leak because of the following excerpt:
except it seems that Iron man will be joining the fight as well. Again, this was leaked almost 11 months ago, so the scene could have been reshot with iron man in the mix...
In earlier trailers, we saw a bloody and beaten Cap tightening his shield. Now thanks to this leak, we probably know why. He will need the other arm to wield freaking Mjolnir. Now this makes sense when taking these shots into account, and the fact that Marvel actually set this up in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This would be a hell of a way for Cap to go out and I'm all for it. Sad...but epic.
Some people are not gonna be okay with the Russo brothers killing off Captain america in the first act of the film, but I assure you guys...that it doesn't mean Cap won't be in the rest of the film. Remember...we are going into the quantum realm where we will be experiencing multiple realities...and therefore multiple versions of Cap. I think this is what the 4chan leaker was talking about when they said that the film would "revolve around Tony's relationship with Steve". Tony will get the opportunity to work with Steve throughout the film and "avenge" his death.
The next part of the leak describes Hawkeye's role in all of this, and it seems to be protecting the unfinished gauntlet that Stark is building from Thanos's minions while they are off in the quantum realm. This seems to fit in with the previous shots we have seen of Hawkeye from previous trailers, and apparently there was a lego set that leaked recently that showed the lab in Avengers HQ where Tony and a few other Avengers were surrounding an unfinished version of the gauntlet.
those stills you just saw no doubt take place in Avengers HQ while Hawkeye tries to defend the gauntlet from an attack by Thanos's minions...just as the leak describes.
There are two more interesting tidbits that give this leak even more credibility. The first is the part where the leaker talks about Nebula's subplot revolving around her redemption and her fighting the evil version of her past self. Now 11 months ago, this would have been laughable, but thanks to scenes revealed in this trailer...as well as one pivotal scene revealed in the past trailer...this now seems to be the case:
and finally the leaker concludes that the original title of the film was "Infinity Gauntlet" before Gamora fudged that up by accidentally leaking it at the premier of Avengers Infinity war. See the article/video below:
https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-39703764
now this title would make ABSOLUTE sense with the entire plot revolving around the Avengers assembling the gauntlet to reverse what Thanos did...but obviously they were not happy about Zoe leaking it and had to change it. This explains why they waited so long for the title reveal. They were deciding whether to change it or not...and obviously now we know they did.
The Purple People Eater
The Trailer concluded by finally giving us a little taste of Thanos...and boy are The Avengers gonna have their hands full. Not only is Thanos fully armored up this time...but he actually is wielding what seems to be the freaking infinity sword. Yep you read that right. The Infinity sword. It's a real thing. In the comics, Doctor Doom wields it to try and drive back Galactus, but it isn't effective, and the silver surfer explains later that the sword's true potential could only be reached by using it alongside the Infinity Gauntlet. Crazy right? I thought so, but the release of Avengers Endgame Merch seems to confirm this along with the final shot of the most recent trailer. If you zoom in, you can see Thanos chilling out with his big ass anime-style infinity sword:
Yeah...Cap is really gonna need every bit of his shield and Mjolnir if he even has a hope at delaying Thanos...let alone beat him. Now some people think that because Thanos is wielding the Infinity Sword, that there will be a bigger threat in the film...but I'm not convinced. The movie is already gonna be huge and complex with the Quantum realm stuff (see my previous breakdowns for what I think will be happening in that regard), that adding another villain into the fray would be too risky. Thanos with the Gauntlet and the sword is formidable enough for God's sake.
"You could not live with your own failure...and where did that bring you?
....back to me."
EPIC.
Of all the trailers, this one got me the most hyped. In fact, I would go as far as to say that a trailer hasn't gotten me this hyped since the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser where I literally cried like a 10 year old. This movie is gonna be special guys...I can feel it. We can speculate all we want, but in 23 days....we will finally know the truth. I can't wait!
