Marvelous Tales Contest #13 - Killy Killy Yakka Zakka Boom Boom Boom

The seminar was pretty dull. Amanda and Desgraci were asking themselves why would anyone who needs a job go and work as a beggar for half a year to be allowed to do voluntary job in another continent later on? Ridiculous. The break allowed them to figure out that they were from the same town and Desgraci got her a travel companion for the way home. She still earned enough to give a ride to a nice girl.

Cold winter night has already settled when they left the seminar and headed to the car. They nestled themselves comfortably and off they were. Hardly any stars were seen on the sky for the bright street lights.

“I heard the sky in Africa is full of stars, like the night is covered by a blanket of stars all around the place,” said Desgraci.
Amanda was a choir singer and she already was in South Africa once on a choir competition.

“Yes it’s true,” she said, “it’s overwhelming”.

They were discussing whether they should apply and join the supposed education for the volunteers as both of them wanted to go somewhere and work at the same time. But the presentation made the whole thing smell of exploitation of the highest order. They weren’t used to get into that kind of relations. The state they were raised up was pretty incredible, no-one felt poor and everyone was considered equal, thus no one more than any other. It was easy to find a common ground.

“They are quite different down there,” continued Amanda. “We were used to do everything ourselves when we were on competitions, but they were constantly offering us service for practically everything. We had a constant impression that they put themselves in a position of being less than us. Very unpleasant.”

“Yes, we certainly aren’t used to be someone more or someone less,” commented Desgraci.

“But they are very cheerful, though. We taught them a song.”

“What song?”

“They were lamenting that they haven’t had rain for thirteen years already. So, we told them we know a song American Indians sing to call for rain. They were all eager to learn it. Soon enough, we joyously sang the song together on the street.

“Killy, killy, yakka , zakka, boom, boom, boom,…”

All of a sudden, there was a deafeningly loud thunderclap as the clear blue sky was torn apart with lightning, and the rain started pouring down in sheets. The streets turned into torrents of red muddy water. All wet, we were all jumping up and down from joy, and running to reach our shelters. All our concert dresses were wet and sprinkled with red mud, but they were so grateful for the rain that they helped us to wash and iron them again for the concert.”

This is a story for the Marvelous Tales Contest #13, prompt words: tunder, rain
