Balancing Masculine and Feminine Energies

Thinking about the balance of masculine and feminine energy brings to mind the symbol of Ying and Yang. Have you ever considered how these energies play a role in your life?

Recently I have been giving consideration to how they play a role in my life. Based on personal observation, it seems like feminine energy is nurturing and compassionate whereas masculine energy is controlling and demanding.

Up until very recently I have been under the impression that masculine energy is what I need more of. I’ve recently started to wonder if it’s not the other way around. Perhaps compassion and nurturing are what has been missing.

This thought process did not arrive without much ado. Having grown up with a father that always said things like “toughen up” or “time to step up to the plate” placed considerable emphasis on masculine energy.

It seems to me that I’ve been in a state of demanding and control for a very long time. While in this state, there has been very little compassion and nurturing. Beating up myself and trying to “toughen up” does not seem to be doing the trick.

I wonder how many men/boys go through life thinking they need more masculine energy. Perhaps there father tells them to toughen up or their friends tell them to grow a pair of balls. In line with elders and peers they go on thinking more masculine energy is the key when in fact they are lacking in compassion and nurturing.
