They are now buying and selling fake masks, explicitly designed to look like an N95 but which intentionally offer no benefit at all.
Marketed as “breathable masks” or “freedom masks”, sellers are now selling fake face masks consisting of two mesh layers. From the outside they look opaque, and without close inspection look like an ordinary N95 mask… but they are completely worthless, offering no attenuation of outgoing droplets whatsoever.
You can find plenty by going to Etsy and searching for “fake breathable mask”.
This is why we may be stuck here forever. Because the people most likely to spread disease are also the people most likely to lie about the fact they are spreading disease. The only answer is more death, until they learn or die.
