Mandatory mask ordinance.

So when I took my bike in for repairs yesterday a couple came into the shop and were instructed to put on masks. Thus I say the first example of the new mandatory mask ordinance passed in my area. I am enough of a libertarian that it makes me a little uncomfortable. I do worry about the possibility of this leading to more of a power grab. But on the other hand, a mask is not a great price to pay to gain a good chunk of our freedom back.

I have not looked at a lot of the info yet but I suspect that much of the outbreak is tied to the refusal of a lot of people to wear masks. And somehow that has become a partisan issue. Once again the polarization in our society is making it harder for us to solve our problems. I do tend to blame the right more for the propensity of people to not wear masks than the left but the general polarization in our society bears equal bipartisan responsibility.

So I, with some reluctance, agree with the mask ordinance for now. At some point it may be unnecessary but for now it seems wise to try to get things under control a bit. I do think we need to watch out to make sure it is evenly enforced in comparable situations but otherwise for the time being I support it.

we had the mask thing in Thailand for a while and honestly masks already were pretty popular here anyway before anyone knew what covid even was. When they said we can go out and about if we wore masks most were happy to comply but a lot of it doesn't make sense such as at restaurants where you have to wear the mask all the time unless you are sitting and eating because i guess covid doesn't go after people if they are eating or something?

I agree with you about the polarization though. It's a bit nuts how literally anything can be made political.
