Hi everyone.

Multiplication, though it is one of the basic operations, can be a bit tricky; hence I would like to share some methods that can be useful when working out multiplication problems without using a calculator.

  • Grid Method
    Expand the numbers. For example 23 becomes 20 and 3

Step 1:

  • Grid Method (diagonal)
    Write each digit individually. For example 43 becomes 4 3.

Step 1:

Step 3:
Multiply the digits (for example 6 times 7) and write the product down but the numbers are separated by a diagonal line (for example 4/2)

Step 5:
Add the numbers that belong to the same diagonal group starting from the right most part of the grid
