Today's number puzzle should be fairly straightforward!
Find the missing numbers in this octagonal ring.
What is the pattern or, more correctly, what is the algorithm that links the numbers together?
I will upvote each correct answer and interesting comments, such as a solution method.
Enjoy!
I shall be distributing SP in the near future, as soon as I have enough SP myself!
So please help with upvotes, resteems, follow me at @rycharde and, of course, have a go at the puzzle!

7 days and nobody solved it!
here is mine ^_^
problem with this kind of puzzle is a hidden algorithm can be any number of 1000 things so a lot of guessing is done before anything works, the circle here is a problem because it only actually works in one direction, the idea is each digit of the previous number is squared and added together
4x4=16
1+36=37
9+49=58
25+64=89
64+81=145
1+16+25=42
16+4=20
4+0=4
and circle continues, but in opposite direction it's broken

The numbers are in a ring for a reason - there is some internal algorithm in common.

Yes, I find that a bit annoying - so we dont earn for 7 days but for 6.5. One can still comment and upvote the comments even after expiry, but that doesn't help the post much :-/
But thanks very much, you got it right. Perhaps I shall introduce cyclic ordered sets in further questions. As this was one of my first posts I didn't add a prize - just in case I didn't earn enough on it - but please follow and you can try all the future problems. Most fun ones come from maths competitions - I find school syllabus questions rather... uninspiring.
