Math problem - please help!

Me and two of my friends went into this burger place for lunch,
apparently we had two many beers because this weird thing happened and we couldn't figure it out...

We came out with a bill of 25$
Each of us put 10$ on the table,
The waitress took the money and came back with 5 one dollar bills.
Since we couldn't split 5 into 3, each of us took 1$ back and we left 2$ as a tip.

now here's the weird thing:
There were 30$ on the table.
Each of us paid 9$ (gave 10$ and got 1$ back) that's a sum of 27$;
The waitress got a 2$ tip - so it adds up to 29$;

WHERE IS THE MISSING DOLLAR???

Be that as it may...and, may I say - that may very well be....is it simply so? Hold please while I work through this & hope this has helped!

Wait....how much did you put on the table?! '10$' each would be $20 - toward a $27 tab?

You all paid $28 total and left $2 for the tip? What I am wondering is why she gave y'all $5 in change if the bill was $27 and y'all gave her $30? This question has me all confused lol

Yep you're right :-)
the bill was 25$ not 27$
but still...
we paid 9$ each (27$)
the waitress got 2$
that adds up to 29$
where's the missing dollar?

Me too. My suggestion is that they actually visit the same burger king a few times "before" going out to get drunk next time. 3 trips and they should at least have the first round at the bar covered...compliments of their local burger king.

Its an accounting problem:

$30 = $1 in the pocket of person A +
$1 in the pocket of person B +
$1 in the pocket of person C +
$2 as a tip for waitress+
$25 inside burger place cash register

The original sum of the money in the problem is not a sum of money that the three people paid originally, as that would need to include the money the burger place has in this case $25.

$27 already includes the waitress's tip. To add the $2 to the $27 would be to double-count it.
