Mathematics. (An original poem)

A syllabus of us.
A subject for you.
One and one
Is two.

Geometry.
Plotted here, angled there,
Clearly defined lines,
Distinct shapes divide over time
Over an indistinct infinite plane.
Our paths cross again.

Count my letters,
Not invisible co-ordinates.
Counter intuitive explanations,
New additions,
Old subtractions.

Algebra.
Problems pile up.
Letters of unknown value,
Clutter our once tidy sums.
Pages of unsolvable equations.
Notes in the margins of our errors.

A confusion of punctuation.
A rebellion of numbers.
We never know why.
X is always irrational.
Upside down.
Even odd.
