Winners of the MavPhotoFiction Writing contest

in mavphotofiction •  7 years ago

So a week has gone by and we had 16 entries for the #MavPhotoFiction contest. Absolutely happy with the results and the entries were so diverse.

So many people slew me with their words and some were even inspired to create an ongoing series because of the photo! That is pretty awesome!

So let us go to the winners!

1st Prize

The Sacrifice
by @hundredlbsbeauty

The alarm blared and woke me up from deep sleep. I started stretching my aching shoulders, arms, and legs. I stared blankly on the ceiling for a while. No matter how I want to snuggle my pillow and stay in bed, I have to force myself up.

I stood up with a sigh and went near the window. I was looking at the most wonderful view from the 10th floor of the building where I live, and the sun is about to set. I brewed my coffee and headed back to the window , opened it and enjoyed my favorite view. I felt the cold breeze caressing my face and embracing my entire body. I sipped into my cup of hot coffee and continued watching the sky turn orange as the dusk fell. Another day is about to end, but I am just starting mine.

2nd Prize

Between the lines of time - [Chapter I] A tear in the darkness

by @bryangav

In that building where Madrid had risen trying to reach the clouds, she waited. Those sunset colors would be the last she would see, that was for sure. She did not need to waste seconds remembering but it was inevitable that her thoughts would swirl and hit her skull as if inside her head there was a punk party.

The sunset contained all the beauty that she could never reach. While she watched it, she felt vulnerable, terribly fragile and ashamed, as if the breeze lifted her dress in the middle of the church. She smiled. It was ironic that her last moments had so much light when her whole life had remained submerged in darkness. Her body felt heavy and weak. She needed to sit down, the sedatives began to take effect and it was not convenient to faint in the middle of that place. No... She had not climbed up there to faint.

3rd Prize

Get Here

by @ristinay

In life, we will encounter that one special person who will make a huge difference in us, that someone might come in a perfect place and time or maybe at a wrong time but in a right place.

Here’s a story about Luke, a young engineer who found love in a perfect place but at a wrong time.

The cafe

I love drinking coffee in my favorite coffee shop- sitting atop the buildings with a magnificent sunset view of the metro. Coffee + cigarettes + sunset view was the perfect alone time for me. Its been a year since I discovered this place and somehow I got attached to it, its like my go-to place when I need to destress. Also I got to know Tim- the owner, the one who created this place and he told me the story why he built the place.

Congratulations to the winners!

I enjoyed several other pieces and I think they deserved a mention

Rooftop Whirlwind Romance - An Entry to @maverickinvictus' Photo-Fiction Contest

by @valerie15

Staring at this fiery horizon with clasped hands. Forcing myself not to blink as drops of tears are threatening to fall down.

No, I should not cry. You don't deserve my tears.

It was an afternoon of May when my feet led me to this very spot. A rooftop found in an abandoned building. Peaceful. Empty. Cold.

The Last Sunset

by @rjd

I work a night shift as a paramedic at a hospital nearby so I always woke up just about when the sun sets. It took me a couple of days to find this apartment though. It’s just near my workplace, not too expensive and the view was amazing.

I turned the TV on at enough volume so I can hear it from the kitchen. Gathered any ingredients I could find and prepared myself dinner. While the food was being cooked, I took a cup of coffee and went to the window to watch the sunset.

WHEN THEY CAME

by @sigmund

When they came, they said it was necessary, that the virus would kill us unless we took the vaccine. They said the vaccine would protect us from the coming plague. Then they started giving it to the weak, those who couldnt fight, those who were too sick to resist and those who were scared than common sense would allow.

These men, men who wore camous the color of death itself, men whose voices sounded like wails at a funeral suddenly bacame our saviors. One by one the weak became strong and the sick began to get better. Soon everyone was clamouring for the vaccine. People lined up infront of their make shift base for the so called cure. You go in crying this moment and then the next moment you are beaming with smile, the tear filled eyes of your mum greeting you, welcoming you back to life cos you were all but gone. That was the situation then.

X and Y (1)

by @febbiefull

Some people passed by into your life just to lit a temporary light to your darkest hour- (F)

How can you love someone so easily if your’e still broken? Is that because you are vulnerable to everything ? Or is that a joke of fate that you love them so much that you even changed your preferences for her. -(F)

Change status saved! From being in-a-relationship for 5 years to being well only god knows how complicated.

Ting! Ting! A message from facebook messenger recieved.

Wao, I'm very happy! I really thank you for this contest. It was amazing for me to build a complete story only through a photograph. You gave me the opportunity to give life to a character that had been asleep in me and now can see the light of the letters. Everything is thanks to you, I really am very grateful.

My congratulations to all the winners and to all the participants for their incredible works.

I'm glad to have inspired you to do a complete storyline you want to do.

It was a great way for me to discover new people as well.

I saw you're in Promo-mentors you should drop by more there.
