I made a prediction on this fight on another post here on SteemIt: I guessed that McGregor would be disqualified in the 5th round. I thought that once he found out he couldn't out-box one of the greatest boxers of all-time, he'd be reduced to turning the match into a street-fight. He'd get dinged for head-butting, throwing Mayweather to the mat, hitting him in the back of the head, or some form of illegal punching - and Mayweather would win. Thankfully, I was wrong.

This evening, I was resting after work (i.e. laying around on the couch surfing the web) and it dawned on me that the big fight was tonight. Suddenly, I felt like seeing it live. I didn't want to rely on a YouTube live-feed, because they are prone to being cut-off in the middle, when it comes to big Pay-Per-View events like this. And, I didn't feel like forking out $90 either. So, what to do?

I went downtown to my local poker-house, where the fight was on Pay-Per-View, forked over the $30 to get in and get a beer for my wife and I - and I enjoyed watching the fight. So, how did it go?

Round 1 was basically a game of patty-cakes: both fighters feeling-out each others' range. McGrogor did get a couple of light, off-balance jabs in by surprise. Mayweather just wasn't able to predict everything with his unorthodox boxing-style. Round 2 was similar. Things did start to get a bit nasty in the 3rd-5th rounds when McGregor hit behind the head, hit Mayweather with a hammer-fist, and there were even some low-blows and nut shots thrown by both fighters. Nothing was too damaging, though.

Rounds 6 - 8 were the true "fighting" rounds. Both fighters looked good. I was surprised by McGregors' ability to hang with Mayweather in a real boxing match. That did impress me. However, Mayweather is just too much of a master in the boxing ring to be taken by the likes of McGregor. Nobody really got too hurt or devastated here. There were some good punches thrown and landed. For a short bit, Mayweather even looked like he might have gotten hurt by a couple of good shots - but he danced his way through them, clinched, etc. McGregor, on the other hand, took some very solid hits to his face and body. Both fighters dished out some punishment and took some as well.

By round 9, it was obvious that McGregor was in too deep. Mayweather had the upper hand, looked fresher, maintained his stance, kept on boxing. McGregor was getting gassed-out: not able to defend himself effectively, dropping his hands, and he looked to be wearing down.

Round 10 was short. Mayweather landed 12 or 15 solid shots and McGregor was obviously too tired to be able to continue defending himself. The referee did the right thing by calling the fight about 1 minute into the 10th round.

In the 10th round, Mayweather won by TKO.

It was a fairly entertaining fight. McGregor did have a chance, early on - he came out aggressively in the opening rounds and really pressed Mayweather. But, Money played the fight perfectly, kept his strategy intact, forced the fight into the deep end, and controlled the ending. McGregor was out of gas.

Hats off to both of these guys for delivering what the fans wanted to see: a decent boxing match.
