Mazda has a long running history with rotary engine despite their flaws. They continuously upgraded their rotary engine up until 2012 when the last RX-8 was made. Unfortunately since then not much has been revealed about a possible successor. More recently though things started to change. A short while ago they released the RX-Vision, a high performance two-door concept which could be the RX-7 successor everyone has been expecting. Unlike the RX-8, the Vision, or its rumored production model, the 2019 Mazda RX-9, is expected to be closer to a super-car than to a sports car. This means a much higher starting price and considerably better performance than any of its predecessors.
IN DETAIL
It seems the car may be built on Mazda’s SkyActiv chassis or at least a heavy modified one. Its predecessor was using roughly the same platform as the MX-5 but this is no longer going to be the case. Instead it seems Mazda will make heavy use of aluminum, high strength steel and carbon fiber in the making of this new model.
