Regular use of cannabis affects women's sex lives. The first study of its kind was published last year in the journal Sexual Medicine. The study found that women who regularly use cannabis experience higher levels of sexual satisfaction. They have better orgasms, experience greater arousal, and generally much greater sexual satisfaction. The study is the first of its kind to use a validated questionnaire to assess the relationship between female sexual function and aspects of cannabis use.
452 women aged 30 to 49 participated in the study, 72.8% of whom used cannabis regularly more than six times a week. The majority of the women (81.6 percent) were in a relationship, and 46.7 percent of the participants typically consumed cannabis while smoking the flower.
The index of female sexual function was used in the study. Women who reported higher cannabis consumption reported higher FSFI scores. In addition, women who increased their intake by only one use per week reported an increase in total FSFI, including in terms of desire, arousal, orgasm, and satisfaction.
The researchers found that with each additional weekly increase in cannabis consumption, the likelihood of women reporting sexual dysfunction decreased by 21 percent. The study found that sexual function was not influenced by either the method of consumption or the type of cannabis consumed.
According to the authors of the study, "the exact mechanisms by which cannabis can enhance female sexual function are unknown," but it can be noted that "the endocannabinoid system is involved in female sexual function." Previous studies also point to this, these "have shown that increased amounts of endogenous cannabinoids are associated with increased sexual arousal."
“Since many patients use cannabis to reduce anxiety, it is possible that reducing the anxiety associated with sexual encounters can improve the experience and lead to improved satisfaction, orgasm, and desire. Likewise, THC can alter the perception of time, which can prolong the feeling of sexual pleasure. " - Cannabis Association rating on Female Sexual Function with an Index of Female Sexual Function.
