What is the nature of consciousness?

Check out Iain McGilchrist, he is a philosopher with a new take on the brain. He argues that the division of the brain into two hemispheres is essential to human existence, making possible incompatible versions of the world, with quite different priorities and values. He talks about manifestation in a non-mechanical way. I am pretty blown away by this guy's thoughts and ideas.
I stay open to ideas! Please let me hear your thoughts.
