First things first, this car weighs 2,800 pounds dry. With fluids, it weighs 3,153 pounds, which is still light. I say this because in the first episode of our new video series, Three Lap Reviews, we say that the 2018 Road & Track Performance Car of the Year, the McLaren 720S, weighs in at 2,800 pounds.
Second things second, yes, we're both wearing black t-shirts. No, it wasn't intentional. Yes, I'm sweating my ass off. It was hot, like 95 degrees hot.
Internet commenters catch on to that stuff rather quickly, so it's best we say it up front.
Our first three lap review focuses on the McLaren 720S, which Editor-at-Large Sam Smith and I have on track at NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Like most supercars, it's ballistically quick. Unlike most supercars, it's friendly, playful, and fun at any speed. You can see out of it, front and back. It's the future of supercars, and all cars, but it's here today.
Here's why it won our Performance Car of the Year award.
