The Making of Adhesive Tape I

in me •  14 days ago

I started out in adhesive tape when I was 12 years old.

It was in a different America than today. I suppose eleven counts. So we did not make tape at that time. We did however have a 10,000 square foot warehouse.
Advanced Industrial Supply and it was my Dad's.

One of the things I have thought about from those days untill now is how married couples cannot work together at most companies. Likewise most companies do not allow mothers to have their children with them.

In family businesses, you get to be around your parents all day. Which because we are mammals, kids like.

Therefore and I remember this to be true, marriages and families are happier the more they are together than when they are not together.

Now what I did was sweep the floor in the warehouse. Sometimes stock things. And sometimes repack things into different containers.

Other than that there was creek across the field with a slough coming off of it. We used to play around there. There were California oaks to climb. Bugs to look at. Frogs and toads to catch.

So I really didn't do that much.

However sometimes my Dad and Mom hired helpers and I remember this and her husband. Crystal and Keith.

Keith was an American that joined the peace corps went to Ghana. Married Crystal and they moved back to San Jose when he was done with his tour.

She was a very interesting person. She spoke good English and I would say she was gorgeous. Very pretty.

They put tape in plastic bags with labels which would be hung on hooks in stores. Retail.

I learned all about Ghana. If I remember right, she was Ashanti.

Keith talked too about Ghana but not as much.

Other than that and I suppose this is important. My brothers, sister, and got in zero trouble that summer.

Which when I think about the benefits of being around your parents all the time is great. It personal record of goodness. I had probably not achieved since I was six. Seven was a very bad year. So was eight, nine and ten. Nine so bad but I did meet a mass murderer of of girls and women who was caught as a serial killer when I was eighteen.

He was weird. If you think I am weird. All you to do is anger him and you wouldn't live through. He was the older brother of a kid named Chris in fourth grade.
