Media Buzz-Creating And Its Effects On The American People

The dystopian novel 1984 written by George Orwell has resurfaced by appearing among the Amazon bestseller this month. According to The New York Times, Craig Burke, the publicity director at Penguin USA, said that the publisher had ordered 75,000 new copies of the book this week and that it was considering another reprint. The book has reached an increase of 9,500 percent in sales this month.

The false claims of the White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, that Mr. Trump had attracted the “largest audience ever to witness an inauguration” and Ms.conway relentless defense for the claim in an interview in “meet the press” in NBC News and calling it “an alternative truth has caused a stir”
The Relationship Between Media and Economy:
People compared that statement with the ministry of truth’s deeds in that novel. Therefore they ordered to buy it, which makes no sense because most of them know it and have read it in school, Which reflects how bad the consumerism mentality on the American people, buying things they don’t need just because it has been talked about in media and buying copies that will probably stay untouched in their shelves without being read. So basically, people are buying stuff because of the media who’s throwing debates about everything just because it’s their job, and people reacting unreasonably.

Consumerism and Health Issues:
Consumerism is a great thing for the economy and country and it always has been since the creation of that term, but irrational consumerism is a real issue. This time media helped reviving the sale of a book; most of the times, consumerism had some really bad effects on people, like the food industry for example, advertisement has contributed in the Americans’ unhealthy eating habits and health problems as a consequence, more than36.5 percent of American adults suffer from obesity and about 82 percent of them have diabetes and The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the U.S. was $147 billion in 2008 U.S. dollars.

Consumerism and Society:
Whenever Apple launches a new Iphone in the market, kids smash their old ones to buy that new phone in order to look cool and urban. Smashing that “so last year” expensive phone and never thinking of giving it away instead.
I remember those Black Friday images where everyone are rushing and bustling into the stores to buy things they don’t need and consider it a great deal, the fights, the yelling, the selfishness and aggressiveness of some when taking away the last item on the shelf from a weaker person and the damage in the stores when everything is over. A Black Friday is the black spot in consumerism where society is exposed as an ethically deforested entity, where values disappear. For that I blame the media.
