Cannabis is now popular for decades among the American people, but the year 2017, was better for this natural herb. From United Nations medicinal benefits certificate to U.S attorney general’s opposition for its legalization and call off Obama era memo this medicinal natural herb remains in news perhaps more than the politician’s political statements.
As the year has ended now and recreational cannabis is legal in California along with other states we will let you know some important events and happenings in the year 2017 for cannabis.
From its medicinal benefits to its ban, cannabis was almost in the news all time.
Cannabis church
Strange! Yes, but this is true. In Denver a cannabis church was opened on 20 April, an unofficial holiday for marijuana users. The century-old building was opened for the cannabis lovers. Interestingly, some invited people along with church management light up for the 4:20 ceremony. There were some 200 memberships on the opening day of the church.
A group of cannabis activists even proposed to lit up cannabis inside the country’s largest Roman Catholic church in Washington D.C. But this proposal was later denied by the church administration.
CBD gets UN certificate
Although CBD is already known for medicinal purposes, this time World Health Organization (WHO) gives a go to the CBD. In its review report, the WHO said that this cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) can be used for medicinal purposes. The WHO committee suggests that CBD should not be subject to international drug scheduling.
Medical marijuana support
Since San Franciso’s medical cannabis legalization in 1996 to 2017, a lot of water has flown through. A recent survey suggests that 94% American support legalization of the medical marijuana. People believe medical marijuana is the alternative to the pharmaceutical drugs.
However, there are still 64% people who support full legalization (medical and recreational) in America.
Increase in jobs
In 2017, there were almost 25% higher cannabis related jobs in 2017. There were almost 150,000 new jobs created in the year. Various states have shown different results, though. California tops the list with 47,711 jobs while as Colorado 26,891 and Washington 26,556.
Jeff Sessions opposition
Jeff sessions, the attorney general, is a well-known anti-marijuana. He openly said, “Good people don‘t smoke marijuana”. He finally rescinds the Obama era memo and hence declared a war on the cannabis users. He has earlier lobbied with the Senate representatives to vote against the marijuana laws, which protects the marijuana users from federal protection.
Legalization in other countries
So if you think only some American countries are legalizing marijuana, medicinal and adult-use, you are totally ignorant. In April last year Uruguay, made the headlines for becoming the first country to legalize recreational marijuana. This was followed by the Canada and it passes a bill in the house of commons in Novermber, to go legal with recreational use in July this year. Germany legalized it for medicine-use. Portugal and Australia will also legalize it by this year.
So if you want to enjoy some holidays out of your state, then enjoy your cannabis in these sates with the country’s permission.
Liquor giants to cannabis Industry
As it is widely believed that marijuana’s illegal status was because of the lobby by the liquor and tobacco industries along with the pharmaceutical companies. But now as the cannabis industry is changing and flourishing, the big liquor giants are investing in the cannabis industry.
Constellation Brands, a liquor and beer giants spent $190 million last year. This will give more boost to the industry and will create more jobs.
The year 2017 was more of the cannabis industry. The industry flourished more and provided more jobs. There was more awareness about the marijuana throughout the globe. Legalization for recreational and medical-marijuana in various countries.

I think 2018 is going to be an amazing year for cannabis! Vermont and New Hampshire already voted to legalize, and it's likely that Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and even a couple more might join them this year. I think Jeff Sessions is barking up the wrong tree.
