According to this article, many major hospitals are teaming up under an unnamed NPO to produce generic drugs to drastically reduce prices.

The example they give is Daraprim, a drug primarily used by HIV/AIDS patients, went from lest than $20 to over $700 per pill when the pharmaceutical company that produces it decided to jack up its price.

In order to do this, their NPO is not disclosing its list of generics so that pharmaceutical companies can't undercut them temporarily to shut them down.

This is great news. I'm sure this will help out so many people. The only drug that affects me that I would like to see reduced is asthma inhalers like Albuterol. In order to comply with EPA restrictions (I think) several years ago, they had to change the propellant to something CFC free. After that, the price of inhalers went over $100. Yay patented chemicals... Getting a generic form of that would be nice.

I hope this made someone's day!
