The Horrors of DIY "Alternative" Medicine: Necrosis, Blue Skin and Urine Injection

in medicine •  7 years ago  (edited)

These days it's a popular sentiment that big pharma is out to get us. What if they don't want to cure anybody? What if they want to keep us sick, so they can sell us pills that only treat the symptoms? How insidious that would be! Which is what makes it such a compelling narrative that many can't help but suspect is true, regardless of the evidence.

This is what has led regular people across the country to attempt their own home remedies, believing that natural, spiritual alternatives to western medicine are superior. Shivambu is an example of this. It's a school of thought in alternative medicine that human urine has medicinal properties.

Practitioners of Shivambu drink their own urine, or rub it on their gums. Some also inject it into their bloodstream. You read that right! They use syringes to inject their own urine into their veins. These are the same people who believe vaccines are poison. They won't allow vaccines to be injected, but they will inject themselves with their own pee (often aged for several months).

It doesn't take much to convince these people to do all manner of stupid things. You just say you share their belief that western medicine is evil, and offer to sell them something "natural" and "holistic" to cure whatever ails them. The main difference between what you're selling and what big pharma sells is that your remedy never underwent any trials before being approved for human use.

Colloidal silver is another alternative remedy many swear by. It was an antibiotic used in antiquity for cleaning wounds, but today it's ingested by people who promote it as a cure-all for any ailment. The problem? If you ingest enough colloidal silver your skin will turn a greyish blue...permanently.

source

That's right. Once the discoloration has occurred, you can limit it if you stop ingesting colloidal silver, but it's not reversible. You get to look like a Smurf, or a low budget N'avi/Andorian cosplayer for the rest of your life. It's a highly visible outward mark of stupidity telling everybody that you fell for an alternative medicine fraud, and paid the price.

That's not the steepest price you can pay for deciding you know better than qualified doctors, however. There exists a folk remedy for cancerous growths called "black salve". In fact it's incredibly toxic and even a tiny amount applied to your skin will cause a spreading necrosis which eventually results in the dead tissue either rotting away or having to be surgically removed:

source

The first case of necrosis from black salve dates back to 1954, but it still happens in the modern era. The woman in that link applied some black salve to spots on the tip of her nose and her forehead. The result? Over the next few days, cell death spread outward from the points of application, eventually requiring the end of her nose to be amputated.

In such cases, usually the disfigurement is rectified with plastic surgery. I wonder if these people learned their lesson, though? Any old bullshit you read on Natural News or from David Avocado Wolf, or Dr. Oz on talk shows like the Oprah Winfrey Show is not even equivalent to actual scientific medicine, much less superior to it.

Playing doctor can have severe, lifelong consequences. Regular people with no medical training or education beyond new age blogs and Youtube videos, larping as "shamanistic healers" more often than not reap those consequences not only for themselves, but also for their children.

I’ve actually read about the colloidal silver mistake..... I don’t know about injecting yourself with urine but as far as ingesting everything a doctor presecribes you, most would be better off eating clean, exercising and cutting out processed sugars. True, some pharmaceuticals are necessary and helpful but our government has perverted the industry to the point of not being able to trust them..... that whole ‘absolute power corrupts absolutely thingy....’ Anyway, it’s good to seek alternatives to ‘medicine’ sometimes however, there is always going to be the moron who eats the tide pod.. Thanks for sharing, resteemed!

We use colloidal silver at my house along with other people I know. The stuff works amazingly, just don’t be stupid about it!! I’m not feeling well so I am goin to drink a whole bottle.
Like you stated, eat healthy clean foods, drink plenty of water, and stay active that is how you stay healthy. I couldn’t tell you the last time I had a common cold. It has been years and I give credit to the items mentioned above. Shoot my kids attend public school and they never get sick.

That’s perfect!

The truth, in this case, is somewhere in the middle. Overall health is connected to nutrition. Most diseases can be prevented, or at least mitigated, by getting the right nutrients. Some diseases can be treated with natural remedies, and I do think that Big Pharma has no interest in putting for actual cures for certain diseases that are very profitable to treat (cancer, e.g.).

With all of that being said, if you have a life-threatening illness and you don't go see a doctor, you're just a fool. Even if it's true (and it is) that big Pharma is full of greedy, corrupt, government-connected f***s, most of the people who work in the sciences actually are trying to make peoples' lives longer and better, and many great cures and treatments have been developed by them. If you have a serious health problem, then you're a fool if you don't avail yourself of that.

@alexbeyman,
I think we all must read this article! Actually this is something that I didn't aware before!

Cheers~

Im now convinced that these conspiracy theories are dangerous, thinking that every one is lying to us and that we should not trust our doctors is not just stupid...

Thinking that everyone is lying except those selling alternative medicine is probably the most stupid.

Even when we know something can harm us , our mind and body have no control. As humans we make these mistakes and let our desires take over . It’s quite sad

In most of cases i think the main reason is lack of education par exprience of doctor who dud not even how to treat a patient suffering from particular disease..

Of course, but to what extent would a doctor be willing to treat a patient with Colloidal silver as an alternating method without first seeing other studies?

It caused me a lot of disgust to inject himself aged urine, but hey if they are happy doing stupid things and believing in such things well, they are free to try.

It's like when the doctor prescribes antibiotics and you decide to take your own urine or use that black thing, enjoy your consequences.

If you're in or auditioning to be in the blue man group, the colloidal silver might help you then.

Or a live action Smurfs movie.

I was in a deep shock when i read ingesting urine in your body. Yaa i have heard of people drinking their own urine thinking it will cure diseases and the difference is just drinking and ingesting. Similarly, ingesting silver too was shocking. Had no idea of these kind of things. I wonder why people would like that silver looking face. And that cancer stuff was so scary. I am just so scared by the name of cancer and looking people suffering from it is just so sad.

That said, not all western medicine is on the up & up. There's a growing trend of truly wealthy Americans traveling to places like Mexico or parts of South America to get treatments not available in the US. These aren't just rich nutjobs either, but people who have gone the traditional medicine route with less than perfect results. There really is some truth to the so-called "conspiracy theory" that big pharma does not actually want to cure anyone, but would rather treat symptoms in perpetuity.

First and foremost though, see a regular doctor. These are incredibly educated people who spend ridiculous amounts of time training and perfecting their skills and knowledge. They also - as a rule - genuinely want to help all their patients. Only after all due diligence is performed should one seek alternative treatments, and then only with a highly skeptical eye.

P.S. It's amazing what can often be accomplished by regular exercise, fresh & healthy diet (particularly avoiding sugar & processed foods) and proper sleep. A whole plethora of medical conditions can be avoided by following the basics. Obviously much easier to say than do, of course.

My opinion is that are are no free lunches. If there's a campaign to make you believe something is good for your health (and that any other thing is bad), chances are there is some kind of economical interest behind it. The path to stay healthy is easy and well-known: eat well, exercise, and keep learning. Don't stop!

It's strange how the people depended on urine as an ultimate disease curer. Medical practitioners, although, are not perfect, they are, on the other hand, better and more qualified to prescribe the right drugs based on the results or symptoms of the patient. We need to educate others on the bad repercussions of self-drug administration.

Wow! what a post, learnt so much, but it's safe to safe i'm not going to become a urine injecting N'avi smuft with a necrosis ridled body quite yet.

I am a big believer in natural remedies but big pharma quite often has the tools required to deal with serious medical issues and in those cases i'd choose a doctor, over a larping shaman any day of the week 🤣 . Thanks for sharing

You just gave me a couple of new topics to dig into. Nice!
Apparently, there will always be enough crazy beliefs around, which are worth to be debunked.

Bah! That's disgrossting!

The only problem is....The U.S.A has one of the worst rated healthcare systems in place. So this seems reasonable.

Herbal is very important medicine on human body .
Great post , i really like it .

Thanks for sharing @alexbeyman

Good

today herbal medicine is more safe and better to cure

Did you read the article?

yes. i am not talking about home made i am talking about those herbs which are collected from forests

It's true many plants have real medicinal benefits, like garlic and tea tree oil. But serious conditions require serious responses, such as measles and other illnesses that have experienced a modern resurgence due to ignorant refusal to avail oneself of great modern medical discoveries.

moderation! do your own research! I have used colloidal silver as antibiotic - it works - but 1 tblsp every 4-8 hours is recommended till the problem is gone. i use only prayer, herbs and chiropractic myself to cure my ills. I do not go to western doctors. I have solved all of my health problems this way. To each their own. i have heard of urine therapy - i have not used it myself, but would research it if I felt a need for it. sometimes I have been known to get a blood test to find out what is going on - then I go solve the problems using alternative remedies.

Alternative remedies for treating patient is good because it does not have most side effects that normal pharmaceutical drugs do have, but it must be approve by qualified medical researchers and practitioners that it truly can cure and treat illness and diseases before being taken or administered to patient @alexbeyman

I would call blue skin a "side effect", wouldn't you?
