I have heard a lot about natural painkillers. In Siddha and Ayurveda there are few herbs described that can be used as a natural painkiller. I'm not listing out the name of the herbs. Just to make sure that you don't try things by yourself. My Ayurveda guru mentioned that based on the type of problem or type of treatment painkillers were used in natural medicine. The painkillers were for both oral purpose as well as for intake. Based on the condition of the patient and the treatment, painkiller herbs were used. I would like to describe two treatments that involves painkillers. 

Before the introduction of allopathic medicines, we have extensively used natural herbs and plant extracts to treat problems related to body. In those natural treatments painkillers play a vital role. In olden day they have even performed surgeries. We are getting many archeological evidences for the same. If there were no painkillers it would have not been easier at all. 

Painkiller for dental problem

This is quite common to use a natural painkiller for dental problems. Even today when we have dental problems and if it takes some time for us to reach out to dentists, we are advised to use clove. If I have problems in my tooth gums, my mother will ask me to have a clove in between my teeth and bite it so that the extract from clove controls the pain. Though it is not a solution for the teeth problem, it really helps in controlling the pain. It can be considered as a perfect painkiller for teeth related problems. 

Just because clove has the property to give a pain relief, it is also being used in the toothpaste as it gives even good odor after you brush your teeth. People also believe that clove has a good healing property. 

Natural painkillers

There is a procedure in Ayurveda called as Jallukavacharanam. This is a keyhole surgery used in Ayurveda to treat wounds and affected areas in the body. In this treatment leeches are used to treat an affected part. The beauty of this treatment is that the patient will not feel any pain in the affected region during the treatment. The leeches that are used in this treatment has anesthesia in their mouth itself. When the bite the affected region to such out impure blood, the patient will not feel anything. The only problem in this treatment is that it will kind of look disgusting for some people who are not comfortable having leeches in their body parts during the treatment. 

This is a keyhole surgery used by Ayurveda practitioners for several centuries. The is no requirement for incision or knife cutting in this type of surgery and another beauty is that the leeches give painkillers from their saliva. This type of treatment is well documented by Sushrutha in his book several centuries before. The leeches are called the natural painkillers. There are only few varieties of leeches that has this healing property. All the leeches are capable of sucking blood without pain if exposed to your skin. But only few varieties of them have this healing property. Other leech varieties can even be deadly. So do not try this on your own. In India this treatment is being followed in many places and Ayurveda treatment centers. There are ancient scriptures that describes well about this treatment in detail. 

As I mentioned in the first paragraph people also prescribe some home made herbs as a good painkiller. I'm not going to name them for safety purpose as I don't want people to try things by themselves. Some painkillers can do magic on certain people and for certain people overdose or even a small quantity can create complications. It is always better to consult a doctor before taking any painkillers be it an allopathic medicine or a natural medicine.
