I think we're entering a really interesting point in history regarding microbes and our understanding of biology. Sure, we have some nasty bugs with resistance to last tier antibiotics like vancomycin and carbapenems, but on the other hand, traditional medical practictioners are now open minded enough these days to do things like 'stool transplants' to fight C. difficicile disease. Yes you heard right... doctors are bypassing Big Pharma for low tech solutions that work? Well slap me silly! The recognition that we humans are really collections of many species living in harmony with each other and our respective environments is just so cool and unexpected. This gives me hope that we can 'science' our way out of our problems.
