For much of the work that we do today, the most valuable asset that we have is our mind, and to keep it performing efficiently, many successfully people take to practicing meditation on a regular basis. Over the years, a number of individuals have reported that practicing meditation helps them to stay focused, reduce their stress, boost productivity, and provide a number of other benefits. And although this is a practice that has been exercised by millions for thousands of years, it's one that it still very relevant and popular in today's society.

Currently, there are a number of meditation-related apps to choose from in the app store, and one of the most popular among them is the app Headspace.

Headspace originally began as a meditation event business in London around 2010 and it has quickly grown, evolving into a wellness app, that's contributed to annual growth of about $50 million. It's estimated that the company is worth about $250 million, all within just a few years. And pretty soon they'll be opening their first San Fran office.

Headspace, which offers a free 10 day trial, has over 6 million users from around the world and every day it provides a new guided meditation. It also provides exercises that are designed to help bring mindfulness to a number of different activities. You can access the content both on the app or on the web.

Meditation is a lucrative business, and aside from Headspace there are many other competitors out there who are looking to meet the same need in the market.

Many successful individuals have attributed their success to their regular habit of practicing meditation, so it's no wonder that many others might be inspired to try it out for themselves to see if they can gain any benefit. Meditation is a cost-effective option for many who are looking to unwind in a simple and easy way, and this practice is what many turn to in order to do that.

Meditation has surged in popularity along with yoga in the United States and surveys as of 2012 have estimated that more than 18 million adults practice meditation. There are also a number of different meditation methods to choose from, with one of the more popular being mindfulness meditation.

There are dozens of studies about mindfulness meditation out there today and past research suggests that mindfulness meditation might be able to provide meaningful reductions with regard to personal anxiety or stress; when they meditate on a regular basis. Neuroscientists suggest that the brain reshapes itself when you meditate and one Harvard study revealed that it can rebuild gray matter in a number of weeks.

A variety of meditation techniques exist and there are many options for the individual to choose from as far as what type of meditation they'd like to engage in. Though there are many kinds of meditation out there, it is suggested that one method may not be any more or less effective than another, it's up to the individual's personal preference.
