What do we see if we close our eyes for meditation?

in meditation •  6 years ago

Meditation has not been a very easy thing for everyone. Some people think it is very complicated and they don't even give a try. Some people give it a try learn how to meditate but they don't get to be consistent. Consistency is very important in any task we do. Without consistency we will not be able to see good results at all. If we would like to get used to something, we have to first practice it with continuous efforts. The outcome of meditation is very powerful. Though the concept of meditation and yoga started in India, it's been a practice in lots of countries all over the world.

When we close our eyes

The first step in practicing meditation is to just close your eyes and give it a try. May not be very comfortable thing to do. For those who are always very active doing something or the other, meditation may not be an easy task to do. But the first thing a person should try doing is to just close your eyes and sit. There are different types of meditation techniques. Some of them include:

  • Closing eyes and trying to clear thoughts.
  • Closing eyes and just focusing on one particular thought.
  • Closing eyes and imagining something.
  • Closing eyes and thinking about your favourite God.
  • Closing eyes and just focusing on center of your forehead.
  • Closing eyes and focusing on the red and black color that you see.

So above are the different methods in which people do meditation. They take any one method from the above and keep it as a meditation technique for them to reach the state of meditation. This is common for every single person. There are also Yogis who use advanced meditation techniques apart from the ones mentioned above.

The state of meditation

On an average a person who practice meditation regularly takes around 20 mins to reach the state of meditation. But first we have to understand what is the state of meditation. Meditation may not be comfortable for everyone but for people who have found it fruitful, it the best medicine for all their problems on their life. It includes both mind related problem as well as body related problem. People who reach the state of medication is free from any thoughts. Here is where there is a big difference between sleep and meditation. During sleep mind is still full of thoughts and it keeps dreaming. During meditation mind will reach a state where there will be no thoughts. Here is where a connection is established between your mind and the cosmos. All great Yogis keep this connection always live.

It seems everyone has a different "route" psychologically to reach a state of meditation. I've found more often than not I can achieve this with my eyes open, through what would loosely be defined as "empty stare". You're starring, but not focusing, or particularly looking at anything. This has a few positives and can enhance a variety of activities. Often used by martial artists, when trying to detect movement from opponents. You're not starring at any particular part of their body, or eyes/face, your eyes are just open and docile and reacting purely on instinct and movement. Over focusing leads to delayed and flawed reactions.

As for pure meditation, I've found the method of focusing on breath, a gentle breeze, or a particular posture can help bring me into a state of meditation more quickly and effortlessly. But again, everyone has their own methods and approaches.
