My Objective

Spread knowledge about Steemit and bring more active users inside the community.

The Presentation

Since I am using Steemit, I thought about actually making the presentation using materials built into Steemit, like this one! So, here it goes...

What is Steemit?

Steemit is a Social Network like Facebook or Reddit... Well, not really... it looks like it, but in fact, it's much more than that. Your content will be paid for it's value instead of being used for someone else's profit.

And it's FREE! Anyone can create an account.

10 Differentiation factors

These are the main reasons I see value on Steemit:

  1. Social Network that values your content! (instead of using it for own profit)
  2. No censoring! You own your content.
(no more, "your post got deleted because... WE CAN DELETE!")
  3. Immutable, after the curation period (7 days).
  4. Reputation factor: How many upvotes vs downvoting you have. How legit you are... and is also used to hide (not delete) low quality content. AKA, likely not important content. Examples bellow:
    Your reputation value
    At a specific post
    Low quality content
  5. Steemit is backed by STEEM blockchain, a graphene blockchain based on BitShares capable of +1000 tx/s, with years of development and testing behind an international community.
  6. Your POWER (how much value your vote has) is determined by how much STEEM you want to be responsible for, called STEEM POWER.
  7. Multiple permission keys to save you from mistakes (they are still private keys, but can't do everything to your account).
  8. You are protected against quick robbery! STEEM POWER needs to be converted weekly to STEEM, and that takes 13 weeks.
  9. Promotes the development of tools that use the same STEEM blockchain and provide valuable services. Like Steemit.chat!
  10. It's a diverse international content source, search engines friendly (like Google), constantly evolving and being adapted by the community.

Where do I start? Instructions...

All of these also work with the usual "google it" fashion, but these might speed you up a bit.

  1. Want to try your first post on Steemit? - Quick Guide
  2. How to start using Steemit? The SIX most asked questions! (6/6) - Complete!
  3. Several ways to withdraw STEEM/SBD to New Zealand Dollars (NZD)
  4. A phone app? Sure, try eSteem - Feature Set #17 How to save on bandwidth usage? (Fetching images, Compact view)
  5. Steemit.chat - Ask anyone anything! This is chat front-end using the same blockchain as Steemit.com. So all the users there, will be the same users as on steemit.com.
  6. Blockexplorers like: steemd.com, steemstats.com, steemdb.com

Thanks Sean for the opportunity to present Steemit...

See you all!
Cheers

Hello Forykw, how best do you think i can learn how to get thing done on steemit? Knowing filly well that the site is information overload where as I am a newbie in the community. Thanks in advance

You can start by the links at the bottom of this post. Let me know when you are done, or have any questions.

I have promoted this post a bit late... but it was for a good cause. Totally worth if new steemians jump aboard with new ideas and information.

Great post mate. I just recently got into crypto and am keen to learn as much as I can.
Would love to meet up with people in the know and discuss crypto and steem. I live on the Kapiti coast so not far from Welly 😊

Well, hope so see you around next meetup. Maybe we can make them at Friday? And then get to a bar and have a drink? Who's in favor?

Sounds good me.

I have only been here for about a week so any info you can divulge is greatly appreciated. Thank you for everything and I look forward to your advice in the future

For me, Steemit is an amazing long term relationship, full of surprises and desire to learn. It also uses a revolutionary technology (Blockchain) to share and seek information of which will forever be in history books, and will for sure be remembered by next generations as a new Era.

I would recommend to anyone starting on steemit, to be patient, have fun, and contribute to the community if and when possible. The last bit is actually the most important one, because it raises more value to STEEM.

Don't rush your posts... enjoy them, be passioned for sharing and learn with others.
