What ? Bitcoin Accepted right here in Magaliesberg, Gauteng, South Africa - Time to arrange a new meetup:)

in meetup •  8 years ago  (edited)

I had the most amazing surprise earlier today when I was meeting a colleague for lunch today.

Magaliesberg

Magaliesberg is a small little town, actually village in the north of the Gauteng Province of South Africa. One of those places which you drive to for a quick Sunday lunch with the whole family if you know what I mean. A real quint little place with many small restaurants, wedding venues, and coffee shops.

If you want to learn more about Magaliesberg, you can have a look here

I was on my way to a venue where I have never been and to my surprise I found a sign on their gate stating that they accept Bitcoin.

So what else did I do than have a beer and I did my first real world transaction when I paid with Bitcoin :)

We are going places :)

Calling all South Africans for a meetup. I am arranging the next Steemit Meetup at the venue above. I suggest we arrange for the first Saturday in July? Who is in? Please leave a comment if you would like to join. All you have to bring is your Crypto Wallet :) @giantbear I think you should join this time :)

Happy Steeming!

Hi guys, count me in! Hope you won't mind a newb like me joining :)

Hi @zippox anybody is welcome, welcome on steemit, hope you enjoy it.

Thanks @rynow ,still finding my way around. Is there a way to like subscribe to a certain thread so that I don't have to go and search for it every time?

Hi @zippox, I think if you follow @jacor, you will see it, as he normally organizes these meet-ups. You can also follow @gavvet as he is also normally involved with the organization of these events.

Thanks @rynow. Great to hear. I will ensure to keep you all updated with the arrangements 👍🏻

Thank you very much

Do it in August then I 'll be there! My holiday only starts on 4 August...but contact me closer to the time and I'll see what I can arrange.

We can do another one in August :)

Glad to see more and more people are accepting bitcoins... I wouldn't be surprised if it is accepted by masses very soon and bitcoin becomes the currency of the world.

The problem is the speed of their transactions :( I do not believe it will be acceptable. Steem, Bitshares and soon to be EOS have much faster transaction speeds and therefor a much better chance to be accepted by the masses. Bitcoin's advantage is that much more people in the world know about Bitcoin.

True... because of Bitcoin, they will learn about other crypto's. Bitcoin can replace Gold as it has store value and all other crypto like Steem, Bitshares.. etc will support micro transactions at lightning fast speed.

100% I do believe that there will be many crypto's that will be adopted by the masses. Different strokes for different folks :)

nice....your post deserve upvote and resteem....

Great experience as we move forward!

Indeed @team101

Bitcoin accepted. Always music to my ears! Steem accepted will be a symphony when that time comes!

@scaredycatguide, this is exactly my plan :) I am arranging a meetup specifically at this venue to show the owners that if they also accept Steem, they just might see more customers :)

Sweet! :-)

Hello jacor. The progress of Bitcoin in reaching the mass is excellent. You guys enjoy your hangout! Sadly, I'm not from Africa so I can't go there.
But I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures!

Hey @happy-doge, I will make sure to post some pictures after the meetup :)

Awsuuum! :D

Hmmm, I am up there he long weekend in June .... pity. But if you available for a cold one we can maybe get together for a catch up.

Will be great if you could join. When is the long weekend ... 16th?

Yup, up on business 13 June, staying the weekend for my buddie's 50th on Saturday night

I will see what we can do. Will try to accomodate that weekend

But I will definitely make a plan to see you when you are here @themagus, even if we just meet for dinner or a beer :)

Hi @jacor how did you pay with a card? It is awesome that we can use bitcoin here.

Hi @stardust, no card needed. Did a Wallet transfer from my phone 👍🏻

Lekke! I have been to Magaliesberg, back when I taught at Pta Boys High for a year. It's a nice little town, for sure. Nice to hear Bitcoin has found a home in South Africa.

Beautiful little place :) I think the most important is to have a designated driver whenever you visit here :)
