Dong Thap, Vietnam's lesser known destination
Located in the Mekong delta, 165 KM to the south west of Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap province covers an area of 3,377 sq KM. The province has lots of eco tourism potential, but it remains unpopular with tourists.
Now the province plans to boost tourism development in a sustainable manner with a special focus on the growth of quality products. It will also complete its infrastructure system and improve human resource quality. Accordingly, in the master plan of tourism development to 2020, the province wishes to become a hot spot for eco-tourism, cultural tourism and spiritual tourism. Known as the 'lotus province', Dong Thap now has a new logo and slogan - 'As pure as lotus'.
Tourists who pay a visit to the province as welcome at its three main gateways by billboards in the pastel pink of the lotus. locals are very friendly and hospitable. They are also known for their excellent cooking. Their dishes are fresh and sweet and taste even better when enjoyed in the peaceful and fresh atmosphere of wild nature.
Dong Thap has become the center of Dong Thap Muoi area with a main route connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Chau Doc and also the Go Thap historical relics and Tram Chim national park.
Sa Dec - the flower city of south Vietnam
For over 100 years, Sa dec flower village has been well known as the land of the thousands of varieties of exotic flower and strange plants. Sa dec villagers grow flowers all year round.
Gao Giong Ecotourism
Near Cao Lanh, Gao Giong ecotourism area is green oasis divided into four areas with over 70 km of canals and 20 km of self contained dikes. The mangrove forest in Gao Giong covers 17000 ha, including 25 ha of primitive forest that creates a scene of wild beauty. Thousands of birds create an animated and noisy scene. It is also famous for many aquatic products.
Tram Chim national park
Spreading over an area of seven villages in Tam Nong district, Tram Chim is home to a many as 200 types of birds which makes up one fourth of the birds population in Vietnam. The most well-known is the Red-Crowned Crane, one of the last 15 crane pieces in the world.
Go Thap relics
In the center of the Dong Thap Muoi area in My Hoa and Tan Kieu communes, Thap Muoi district, the Go Thap site is strongly connected to the Oc Eu culture dates back to 1500 years ago. the site was an important revolutionary base during Vietnam's resistance wars against France and the USA. It is also a home to long standing religious institutions.
Xeo Quyt historical relics
A revolutionary base during the anti-French and US resistance wars the 20 ha cajeput forest of present day xeo quyt has been reclaimed and has become an attractive historical and ecological tourist site in the southern delta. To visit the plain of reeds by boat is an interesting excursion as boats glide between cajeput trees and the air is filled with fragrance of flowers. currently some vietnam tours and packages include this unknown destination to their packages, a tour operator such as Vietnamese private tours, a Hanoi based one that has investigate to promote this destination of the mekong delta.
Nguyen Sinh Sac memorial site
You can easily expand your knowledge about president Ho Chi Minh by visiting the revered Nguyen Sinh Sac historical site. this place was built to commemorate Ho Chi Minh's revered father - Nguyen Sinh Sac. The whole site has an area of 3.6 ha including the tomb and the hall, plus other interesting features such as a stilt house.
