A Hard to Swallow STEEM Meme

As the price of STEEM tumbles to around the $0.10 USD valuation ( partially caused by Bitcoin shitting the bed ) the cries of the community is heard in the dusty, mostly emptied out streets. While not in complete ruin the lack of morale and excitement fills the air with an unhealthy dose of FUD entering the nostrils and minds of all those breathing it in. The "regulars" scuttle around, foraging for good posts to curate or in hopes their content receives some sort of recognition and compensation.

The community and it's ecosystem aren't dead by any means, but it certainly isn't the booming metropolis that our STEEM network once portrayed years back near the launch of the chain. In part I believe that this is caused by a lack of use cases for STEEM, price of the STEEM token and the diminished rewards for creating content. Compounded with a lack of the "killer apps" ( not saying they don't exist ) that require STEEM to utilize we're set up for stagnation and price fluttering downwards.

How Can We Prevent STEEM From Becoming Mummified?

A unified stance of action in regards to supporting the STEEM network via the means of advertising as well as supporting developers focusing on the creation of STEEM applications. As applications that utilize the STEEM blockchain and require the liquid STEEM token to be used are released the demand of the token should grow. Ultimately what the community needs is applications that encourage people to purchase STEEM, then these applications need to be marketed to both existing community members but also those who are currently outside of the community. With as influx of new users and existing users purchasing more STEEM the sell pressure on the market should reverse and hopefully lead to a gradual increase in price.

Without community support of 3rd party STEEM developers and subsequent marketing popularizing their services, the balance of supply and demand will end up tilted uncontrollably towards the available supply greatly outweighing demand, with the token price and overall network market cap sliding down because of this.

What Can You Do to Help?

First and foremost purchasing STEEM on the various exchanges available to trade it with various pairings help support the STEEM price from falling. In addition to this you can also support the many developers / coders that take their time and skill in order to create applications for our STEEM network, which in turn facilitates a growth for demand of the STEEM token itself. If you're looking to see who is developing what and wish to support their proposal for funding the development of their services you can always go check out the Steem Explorer Proposal Page and see what's going on there.

If you'd like to support the development of Steem-Roller.com you can vote on my own proposal for funding by checking out: https://steemproposals.com/proposal/60

Marketing what exactly ?
Let's chill until we have communities.

Our killer apps such as Splinterlands or Steem-Roller. :)

Splinterlands can only grow so fast until RC delegation pools give us a flood of account creation tokens. Mobile app is still a month away. We'll get there, but growing too quickly has its pitfalls.

Splinterlands is far more RC hungry than my site or the other on-chain gambling offerings.

I agree that growing too quickly can be dangerous, as can stagnation in the community.

Mobile apps are something I need to learn to do. Cheers man.

just wait till the super secret klye/axey ent. games come out! holy shit
joking, best of luck klye, whoooooosh

I can only imagine the game we would make if we had an entertainment company... 10/10

For myself, as a user, non programmer, non developer, there is no support for 3rd party STEEM developers. SPS is in my mind a failure when it comes to 3rd party developers. I saw what has happened to steemchiller and his proposal, and to 3speak and their proposal, funding was pulled because some big steem holders did not like the fact they were not open source or on git-hub. This is just how I saw the post and the comments made on two post talking about SPS.

From this social user of steem block chain, it seems if you are not part of the incrowd developers with steemit.INC then your chance of receiving funding through the SPS is...well...pretty much nil.

I am sure there have been a few successful 3rd party developers get some funding, but at what cost? and will that funding continue? since it can be pulled at anytime the SPS people feel like pulling the funding.

Nothing wrong with being an end-user man. Often times cuss to myself wishing never learned to code, changes how you think.

The SPS system seems to have a quite high bar to break in order to get funding, although their are a collective of "whales" that can easily prop things into the SPS green zone if they band together. As someone who has access to the "secret" slack chat for STEEM developers I can tell you support from within is hit and miss, some of the guys honestly want to help developers, some don't really care at all.

Hoping that my proposal goes through, although it will likely be a miracle if that is the case.

I tried to support your proposal, but could t figure out how from my phone in a hotel room. Like @bashadow I'm an end user and if it's not ridiculously easy to do something its hard.

I want Steemit and Steem to be around for the long haul. I like the idea, and am going to continue to be active.

We need the front ends to be easy to use, and get people in here using it as an end user.

There is a lot of great content, but few active users, and as I've mentioned in recent posts, discovery sucks.

It's very hard for someone new to on-board themselves, or just search out niches they're interested in.

No amount of marketing is going to solve that.

The steem/btc ratio hasn't budged.

Were they both following eachothers trends?! I thought we slipped a bit when we had that BTC price spike a while back.

I think STEEM is still tied directly to BTC for the most part. It's been 0.016mB/STEEM for ages, it seems. I think there may have been a selloff when the last spike happened, but STEEM has no real trend of initiative against BTC at all that I have seen.

I shall be buying more Steem at this bargain price. I keep saying we have to build the community around apps and cool content. This is part of why I have done @tenkminnows to get more accounts with significant votes. We already have more of a community than most coins and we need to make the most of that.

Thanks for the resteem @steevc, much appreciated.

yep, we need to draw in users and keep them, with the main focus being on the apps and the blogging. The 50/50 split made posting a fair bit less profitable, which leads me to think we should be focusing more on developing "killer apps" to draw folks in.

The reward change has pros and cons, b but at least it has got big accounts doing more real curation. We need a decent share of rewards reaching small accounts that do good stuff. Apps like @SteemMonsters @tasteem @actifit and the gambling stuff ought to be attractive. Anyone really can earn on Steem.

That is a positive I never thought about, thanks for sharing that.

Yeah, the more stuff we've got going on the better.
