There are currently 972 cryptocurrencies! Ridiculous! Or not?

in meme •  7 years ago  (edited)

Currently our buddies over at coinmarketcap have 972 cryptocurrencies registered on their list.

972!!! If you really think about this fact you kind of have to believe it's ridiculous and only 3 questions can really come to mind.

1: Do we really need 972 different cryptocurrencies and can't we bring it down to a maximum of 100 for starters?

2: Are there even people who hold more than 25 in their portfolio?

And last but not least...

3: Why do these pigeons look like they will launch the most technically advanced cryptocurrency of 2017?

There are that many Linux Distros too..haha maby more, and for at least the last 10 years, we have had over at least 500 different versions of Linux, all with different features, and different software, and custom versions for editing, programming, etc. So I believe each coin will have its own niche, and reason for existing. Also If you have ever built a system from scratch such as Gentoo, then you are essentially mining Linux!! haha

But do we really need so many different versions? Do they really all have their own niche? Or do they just exist to exist?

The world needs standards... we are just wasting resources. Look at the development of few cryptos in the top 50... if we scratch the last 300 all those resources can go help build the 'top' 50 and actually get them live

And how much more don't get listed at all...But limits are bad, so why not let everyone make their own coin, something good will stand out...
If you are going to buy something do research on independent forums, check total supply and inflation rate

I believe by not having a limit of some kind a lot of money and taken gets wasted on projects that will never even get fully build.

If there would be a limit all resources would go into those cryptos and they would have a much higher chance of going live.

I believe it would accelerate development.

972? Reminds me of the dotcom era. We'll probably see a consolidation soon.

Consolidation will happen for sure. Sooner rather than later in my opinion.

Can't wait for the Pigeon Coin ICO.

They will totally disrupt the scene.
