America really needs to think about how ridiculous this is getting. More guns needs more guns. I mean where does it end.

So we are held hostage by people who want to play toy soldier and have an assault weapon of war to make them feel like a bad a$$. If that is the reason for you wanting to have an assault rifle please feel free and grow a pair and join the military instead of being a pretend military man.

That is probably what it boils down to: The fear of being bullied by others. In life, people are always having disputes, often with neighbours. And typically the richer person / the bigger person wins. That's fucking life in all its beauty. I'm not the biggest guy, I'm not the richest, I've done well enough for myself over the years though without the need to have the ultimate deterrent. In the UK, vicious dogs provide a bit of a surrogate, here,I guess (though I've never owned a dog, either).
So, universal gun ownership kind of levels the playing field. All American males know that the law supports the logic that some disputes will be settled by a game-changer: who is fastest on the draw / who is a crack-eye / who can fire off the most indiscriminate rounds per minute. Who can intimidate others just by others knowing the extent of a person's lethal armoury.
It will then follow - as far as these Dirty Little Harrys are concerned - that something of a stalemate now exists, the nation over. If they're known to not have a gun, they could be viewed as a pushover, an easy touch. With their guns, they're invincible to a point. Best not let disputes get out of hand, though. As gunfights are only really in the interest of undertakers and those bastards, the NRA.
So, a kind of uneasy truce situation exists across the fair land.
Except where they send their little 'uns.
Now, no teacher ever gets mental illness, has a bad day, wants it all to end. So give them guns, too, the parasitic NRA exhort, they'll even be given full training, free of charge.
For the NRA needs more Americans to possess more guns. Whatever the death toll. No matter where the body counts stack up. There can be no other way if the NRA is to keep its influence.
