Memes I liked enough to save this week

in memes •  4 years ago

It is probably getting to sound a bit preachy at this point but one of the best things I did for my overall happiness and productivity was to get rid of FB on my phone. Instead, when I have downtime I look at 9-gag which is almost entirely a collection of memes. The comments section can still get pretty toxic in 9-gag but still nowhere near as bad as FB. Also, since you aren't really "friends" with anyone in there, there isn't an opportunity for you to burn lifelong friendships based on differing political views or the misinterpretation of some text you typed. I don't even know anyone's real name on 9-gag. I don't even know what my name is on 9-gag.

What I do know is that every time I look at 9-gag I always laugh. There are some really creative people in there that keep the lulz coming day after day and while I would imagine that most of you are already familiar with it, if there is an off chance that you are not familiar with it, you really should get involved.

I would say that I am actually better informed about the world we live in based on silly memes than I ever was going to be from the biased news stories that exist in the echo chambers that are most FB discussions.

Anyway, these are the ones that inspired me or made me laugh this week although I have no idea when they were originally created.

First off, how cute is that thing? Also a friend of mine who is a professional videographer got paid by National Geographic to travel to distant areas in Nepal in the search of this creature, which is notoriously unsocial. There is very little footage of this creature in the wild and even though they had local guides, a huge budget, and week to make it happen. The Nat Geo team that my friend was a part of managed to find exactly zero of them during the expedition. The special was called off.

When you hear about the "medical procedures" they had in the past they all seem pretty crazy and really stupid. I have seen bottles of medication from much later than the 14th century and basically everything had some form of cocaine or heroin in them. As someone that has done cocaine and heroin (not using needles) I can say that I can relate to why it is that doctors would presume that these sorts of things actually would work to at least temporarily ease whatever was ailing someone only to have their bodies naturally take care of whatever the sickness happened to be and this would likely convince the medical community at the time that it was the product, rather than the natural reaction of the human body, that was curing the ailment.

I am alarmed at how much a lot of women spend on skin care. I don't know if any of it works but my money is on it being mostly a marketing ploy since celebrities end up needing plastic surgery to remain young looking just like the rest of us do and since they are millionaires that probably get these products for free, I'm gonna go ahead and guess that they don't actually do anything.

I don't even have any shampoo. Soap is soap in my world and I will openly admit that on more than one occasion in my life I have use dishwashing liquid to take a shower.

I'm not trying to start any controversy with this pic and if you have strong feelings about Covid you can go ahead and let that be your thing... it isn't going to be mine and fortunately for me I live in a country that either has been very lucky about Covid in a general sense, has no political reason to bump their numbers, or is simply ignoring it. Either way, we have all heard the stories about doctors that have been putting Covid down as a cause of death for just about anything (like gunshot deaths and car crashes.) This would be an interesting case for a lawyer to try to plead in a murder case.

This one made me laugh so much that I was temporarily unable to continue working out in the gym. I recall when I was a kid and even when I was in my early 20's I viewed people in their 30's, such as my parents, as really having it all together and having a fantastic plan for the future. I am now in my mid-40's and I definitely do not have my shit together, whatever that even means anymore. Most of my friends are 10-20 years older than me and they also do not. Many of them are worse off than I am.

This last one can be applied to so many colloquialisms that exist in different cultures that these 3 don't even begin to be the tip of the iceberg. I have friends from a ton of nationalities after living overseas for over a decade and it is very frequent, especially with Australians that I have to say "I am not familiar with that term." The "nah yeah / yeah nah" still throws me for a loop when I hear my Aussie friends say it - and this happens a lot.

That's what I got for ya this week. I hope they were able to put a smile on your face as well.
