Just a few more topics with Evelyn's views!

Trends

"Knock it off" are the only trendy words she remembers, however, fashion trends are more Evelyn's forte! Always dresses stylish, makeup on, and perhaps a pretty scarf to accessorize the outfit, she shares her thoughts on what she liked and didn't like over the years.

"We wore skirts mostly! It was awhile before slacks were in style." She says skirts were better of course!

She believes shoes were better back in the early to mid-1900's. Why? Because they had round toes, lower heels, and some ankle straps. "Today the shoes ruin your feet".

My mother feels the best fashion years in her lifetime are 1940-1960.

She says two reasons why are "We had the right shoes and skirts" and she continues, "Hats made the difference mostly. We wore them to church and on my honeymoon, I wore a pillbox hat. It was so nice!"

Fur stoles were a nice accessory also. She remembers mink collars. "I had a suede coat from Pinkerson's with a mink collar".

Now we simply must mention hair with Ev. She is meticulous as she can be and still has her hair cut and styled as much as she can. She dyed the color for years at home by herself. Now she goes to the hair salon located right in her assisted living home and despite her back and neck limiting her bending for washing and rinsing, she manages to get her hair dyed or at least a root touch up.

Her views on hairstyles over the years: She liked "Flips" the most for hairstyles. (Like Marlo Thomas' hairstyle in her 1960'/ 1970's TV show"That Girl"). "Today the long hair is horrible".

Kids today

"They are very different today. Before there were no cell phones. Now they all have them. And they all have these sneakers with lights!" she went on to say,

"This is why so many stores go out of business. Too much fancy stuff. There were simple stores before, now the kids want too much and there is too much competition online".

Politics

"I think they could care less about the world sometimes. As long as they bring in money. That is what's important to the politicians."

Ev's favorite President is President Washington, ".. our first President of the United States". Lincoln also is on her good list, "Our 16th President. He was so honest. Grew up in a log cabin, poor, had a horse. And had the same house for 15 years. It cost $300".

"I like Roosevelt because he gave us social security". And her comment on one more President, President Adams. "I follow his advice and keep a diary daily and have family and friends write in it".

Lastly, Ev on...
Crime

"There were mob crimes but we didn't see any of that. I was afraid to walk home too late because of the hobos (homeless). My girlfriend and I would take the bus to the movies and then take it back home and walk from the bus stop. I would walk so fast! I was afraid of them, but they were harmless", she said she realizes that now. :)

I have to agree, I miss the simple stores too but times are always changing!! I'm just now catching up and really enjoying the story!! :)

Hi, Dee! Thanks for reading!

Yes, the simple stores were refreshing. But I know I do get a lot online, especially Amazon. But I work for a small business selling sunglasses and for my daughter, who owns her own small marketing business. And I make sure I shop at some small stores at times. I mix it up!

So glad you are enjoying the story! Two more parts. Stay tuned my mom's life-long remedies! :))

You're welcome and looking forward to more on the story! I do most of my shopping now online as well. Sometimes the big stores can be overwhelming.

Thanks, Dee!

Yes, online is simple! :))
