"I'd like to throw away camera's. Do they still have them? ...where you take pictures and then develop them at the store?" Ev is so used to me and so many of us in the family taking pictures with our phones and swiping through online albums for viewing. Left her wondering if we can still take non-digital pictures now that we have Smart Phones.
There is something about snapping pictures and then waiting to see how they come out after they are developed. Sometimes great, sometimes not how we thought they'd look, but always fun flipping through the actual physical photos!
I asked her why people didn't often smile in photos in her earlier years. "They never told us to smile. Just pose". Though exposure time in photography improved from the 19th century, I think the ol' saying "Say cheese" may have not quite started yet in Ev's younger years of the 20th century. :)
Though my mother does not recall a TV while growing up, the family did have a radio. Her TV day memories are from her married years when her and my Dad watched their favorite shows in black and white. "We used to get good shows with Rabbit ears," she said. Too cute!
Speaking of technology, we got right to the topic of cell phones today, and Ev certainly has some interesting views.
"There are too many cell phones. We had towers back then but not like today. There is interference with the environment. Everyone's using cell phones too much. And you are one of them", she said to me! LOL
Ev continued with some simple words that actually give us a great message. "People get distracted in public using them. There should be more conversation with people during the day. You can do that later. Like I do. I use my cell phone later in the day when I'm not around people. I sit in my chair and it's relaxing".... Words of great wisdom and common sense.
I have to agree with Ev about the distraction of cell phones. Lack of conversation with our family and friends while getting glued to the internet or a game on our phones is one problem. Texting accidents are quite a bigger problem. I picture a poster of Ev in her chair, with a light on, using her cell phone at night, relaxing and alone as a reminder to us all of the best time and place for our cell phone use!
