RockDove Men's Original Two-Tone Memory Foam Slipper

The idea of a relaxation shoe to be worn around the house has been around for centuries. The word "slipper," which was first recorded in the English language in 1478, stems from the verb to slip, as this type of footwear is one that is "slipped" onto the foot. Varying forms of slippers are known to have existed in Asia dating back to the 12th century. Over the years, slippers have morphed into many different styles and forms. If you've ever been curious about the historical evolution of slippers or about the varying styles that exist today, then you will definitely want to read this article.

Going back to 1178, in his book "Ling Wai Dai Da," Officer Zhou Qu Fei from the Southern Song Dynasty in the Guangxi province of China describes two types of slippers that he encountered while visiting what is now Vietnam. Both slipper types had bottoms made from leather, but one had an inch long post in the front of it that people clutched between their toes as they walked, while the other type had a cross-shaped leather covering across the top of it. During the Victorian era, the traditional slipper in Britain was the Albert slipper, named after Prince Albert. Like the 12th century Asian slippers, the Albert slipper had a leather bottom but this slipper was much more comfortable and fashionable than its predecessors in footwear. The outside was made from velvet with a quilted silk lining and was often worn with a black tie.

In modern times, the slipper has evolved considerably. One new type of slipper that has recently made its way to market is the memory foam slipper. If you've ever slept on a memory foam mattress, just imagine that same level of comfort cushioning your every step. What makes these slippers so comfortable is that when your feet sink down into the memory foam, the foam contours completely to the shape of your foot, making every stride seem like you're walking on clouds. The memory foam slipper also helps prevent shock damage to the knees and hips because the whole of your body weight is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the foam, so there isn't a pressure buildup on any single part of your foot.

Another modern-day slipper variation is the microwavable slipper. If you live in a colder climate, suffer from poor circulation or minor foot pain, then this toasty slipper will have you jumping for joy. All you have to do is pop the slippers into the microwave, nuke them for one minute, and voila you've got at least 30 minutes worth of blissfully warm tootsies. Microwavable slipper can also help people with insomnia and arthritis.

Slippers have been around for many years and they certainly have come a long way from their leather-bottom origins. With new varieties like the memory foam and the microwavable slipper, the relaxation footwear market is burgeoning to meet the needs of an ever growing and demanding population.
