🌎Memorize all Countries and Capitals with Memory Techniques: #19 Paraguay - Asunción

in memorytraining •  7 years ago  (edited)
Learn how to find Paraguay on the map and remember its capital Asunción. On Steemit we are coming from all over the world. Let us join closer together by learning all countries in this fun and educational series. @yourmemorycoach will teach you memory techniques and how to apply them country by country.

Ordering The World Map

We begin by creating a artifial order on the map to easily identify a path of how we are arranging the otherwise random countries into an ordered list. This will allow us to learn all countries in our own artifical order by connecting them to the classic Major System, the most popular memory technique for numbers. This series will assume that you have already learned this technique. But even without it you will be able to connect country with capital and find it on the map. We are currently in South America. Paraguay got the number nineteen on our list.

The Shape of the Country

The easiest way to be able to identify a country on the map is by associating the shape with something similar looking. These visuals don't work for everybody initially but usualy as soon as you can follow a certain description your brain will adjust and hence forth you will see it right away. Replace them with your own ideas.

Paraguay looks like a hook. Can you see it, too?

The Major System Number

To order our countries and list them later one by one we will use the classic Major System to translate numbers into images. Please replace our image below with your own if you like. You can also leave out this entire step if you are not interested in listing all countries from memory.

The image for number 19 could be TAPE.

The Name of the Country

Some countries are easier and more commonly known while others have difficult names and are rather unheard of. We will encode all of them into phonetically similar images which will help us to remember them much easier.

Paraguay

Sounds like parrot

The Name of the Capital

We are doing the same for the capital as we did with the country: We translate the name into a phonetically similar image.

Asunción

Sounds like ascension

Creating a Memory Story

The final step is to connect all four images for the shape, the number, the country-name and the capital-name. The beauty of this system is that you can connect these images in any order you like and it will be easy to remember any of the other elements by triggering one of the others. Try to visualize each story with your imagination and repeat the information a few times to make the memory stronger.

A parrot uses tape to attach a hook to his head. At the end of the hook is a fake halo symbolizing the ascension of the bird.

Cool method! I'm going to teach my kids this. Thanks!

Yes, that is perfect for kids. Change some of the stories if you don't like them or you think they aren't appropriate for your kids. Also check out Seterra They have an amazing geography app that will be a lot of fun for kids.

Awesome! Im going to download that app and I love that it's a game too. My kids will love it. Thanks again! Following you now. :)

Let me know if you have any questions. By the way: Leave the Major System out when you teach your kids. They don't need to memorize them in order. Of course it would be cool but they can still add that later. Concentrate just on the shape and the name for starters. This is exactly what you can practice on Seterra.

If you need even more help than you can contact my company Thinkkniht where I work with world memory champion Johannes Mallow and give private memory coachings.

Perfect! Thanks again :)

Great. Thanks for sharing. I'm starting to follow you.

I am not sure if I want that. You posted your comment in less than 60 seconds after publishing my post. And when I had a look at your last comments I found this:

Emulate the formatting cos im still learning. thanks for sharing

Thank you. Yes, formatting is crucial for a good blog on Steemit. You don't have to do it but it will be helpful and nice for the eye.

i once memorized all the countries in africa and all the states in china... but no more! (-:

When this series is ready you should give it another try. I bet you can learn all countries in the world in a few hours then. I did and I taught children the same.

Thanks. From now on i am not gonna forget where is Paraguay :)

Always search for the hook! ;)

This Article very nice

Thank you, @padmakshi. I need a memory technique to remember that name. ;)

its easy if you break it up! Padma in hindi is "lotus" and aakshi meaning "eyes" So you have a lady with
eyes like the lotus. BTW , Lotus is the national flower of India. :)

Yes you are right :)

Awesome blog, you explain very well @YourmemoryCoach

Great way of memorizing! Will try it with my kids! Tganks for that😁
By the way, I love your posts, upvoted and following you @yourmemorycoach🤗

Entertaining way to look at things, I've read that in psychology, connecting a place with a familiar shape, name, sound or even smell makes remembering things all the more easier, though the last two would be difficult to use unless you actually traveled to that certain place, though those things do differ for each person, since each of us has a certain superior sense over the others.

Pretty nice post, cheers!
