Sometimes finding the right treatment takes a whole lot of time and tons of patience, and for some people it takes longer to find the right meds than for others.
I have been on and off many medications for the last seven years or so, dealing with tons of side effects and a lot of disappointments along the way. Ive seen many psychiatrists with varying opinions on my mental state and it can take its toll.
Now I know how it feels when you get home from an appointment and they have changed your meds AGAIN..it feels....EXHAUSTING.
Not a lot of people understand just how much of a punch in the gut it is everytime you have to tell your psychiatrist that the meds just aint working or that its making you feel sick..
Its a long road us folks with mental illness walk every single day!
Now let me tell you, there is hope..you will find meds that works with your beautifully unique mind.. it took me a while but I have been mostly stable for the last year. It takes a few things to make it through..
1.) Patience..and yes with meds it ALWAY gets WORSE before it gets BETTER. But it WILL get better. So hang in there.
2.) A good support system.. Family, therapist, friends who care and do not judge will help you through the tough parts of starting a new course of treatment. So make sure you arent doing this alone.
3.) Be in the know...Make sure you know the possible side effects and how to deal with them.
4.) Keep yourself busy.
These are a few things I try to stick to when changing medications.
It is easy to feel helpless when you first start a new course of treatment.
But it DOES GET BETTER.
