Bayer and Monsanto: a merger from hell

in merger •  8 years ago  (edited)

Bayer AG is attempting to purchase Monsanto Co. in what many are calling a #mergerfromhell. If an agreement goes through in the next few weeks, the two corporations may begin pursuing antitrust approval. So in honor of this heartwarming prospect, we thought it would be good to revisit the venn diagram featuring the U.S. government's revolving door into Monsanto headquarters, and a new one we've put together for Bayer.

Most people think of Bayer as an aspirin maker, but they are a leading manufacturer of pesticides, seeds, and plant biotech. Bayer has been acquiring companies in this sector, including Aventis CropScience and Plant Genetic Systems. The European Parliament is worried a further merger with Monsanto would allow Bayer to "dominate the seed market in Europe."
